I do my own oil changes and I take my oil to Walmart, Autozone or O'Reilley's. They all accept used oil so long as their container is not already full.

    Adriantx and Rideandrepair Thank this.

It's all regional. I pawn mine off on shops that burn it for heating. Our auto parts places and Walmart won't touch it up here.

Around here most stores have a 2 gallon a day limit. Autozone enters the amount in the computer,Walmart wants to keep the container, advance doesn’t care I’ve dumped 5 gallons at a time.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Start asking around and see what local garages around you heat with used oil. I'm sure they'd be happy to take it

    Adriantx and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Shop i use heats(3 furnaces) with it. I store in 55 drums during warm months, using care to keep water and other nastys out of it. Middle of winter the shop is happy to take it. :occasion5:

You get an empty 55 gallon drum, see, wait until dark, find the dustiest road, and let 'er go. I know, you'll do time in Alcatraz for that today, even though, years ago it was common practice. Most auto parts are 5 gal. a day, NAPA wouldn't even take it, and don't forget the filters, those are considered hazardous too. I tell ya', changing oil was ALWAYS a mess, today, I'd take it somewhere reputable, and let them hassle with it while you go fishing.
