I'm trying to plan my next LTL trip (forced dispatch to Queens NY). My Garmin 780dezl is directing me off of I278 and onto surface roads, first through Brooklyn NY, then back onto the interstate for a short bit, back onto surface roads again, then back onto I278.
It refuses to accept any of my shaping points to stay on I278 to go around Brooklyn. When I enter the shaping point, it calculates to 79%, thinks for a very long time, then says "Select a valid location." Here's a screenshot of the route the 780 wants me to take. You can see the blue dot to the left (just above the I278 symbol) where I placed the shaping point (several attempts). My tractor settings are at 65 ft., 13'6" x 8'6", and 60,000 lbs.
I could understand if, for some reason, the Garmin thinks that going through Brooklyn is fastest, but if that was the real reason here, the
Garmin should accept the shaping point. So I'm inclined to think there is something else going on.
Any idea why the Garmin is doing this? Is there a way to find out why it won't accept the shaping point? Does anyone know of a workaround?

Probably thinks there's a low bridge somewhere, mine routes me off of 495, has me loop around and get back into 495 because it thinks one of the bridges is 12'8". Mine screws up like that sometimes in NYC

Their is an overhang in the slow lane on 278 if I remember the correct spot. It been years since I been that way. It marked lower then 13 6 because NY measure from the curb or something. They even have signs say get off but don't. You could fit under the over hang. It was tight but it also more easy to get in second or 3 lane. I got off my first trip thru. You are right in the city's streets and you can't get back on 278 on other side because their was no ramp. Don't get off 278 and maybe you can't fit under in the slow lane I don't remember but take the second or third lane. Don't get off on the city streets. You will regret it just like I did. It was not fun
You can see it on Google maps

When I enter NY I literally put my gps in car mode and shape my route. There’s too many things that cause gps issues there, but KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING.
