My Walmart Journey

Everyone has different experiences in trucking.
I have been driving for only seven years pulling doubles 98% of the time & driving a day cab, therefore getting the right set up to back into a 53 ft trailer while driving a sleeper into a tight slot was something i have never done.
They give you 20 minutes to back the trailer into the slot without hitting either trailer on both sides , my average time in three days was 13 minutes.

The super truckers that think they know how to do it usually are the ones that fail the course.

 

When I did onboarding there were 64 of us hopefuls. Only 8 of us did not hit or bump a trailer on the first day. And yes these are experienced drivers. For all the guys that haven’t gone through and love to run their mouths I’d love to see them do it lol. Talks cheap....

 

i have been driving for 17 years. when i started at walmart. i had to learn how to back up again. theres no opening the door or leaning out the window

 

meanwhile they contract out to Swift and have their trailers destroyed, lol

 

They have the numbers to handle Wal-Marts freight demands. And I'm sure if they damage the trailers, they pay to have them fix. And if they're late or cause service related problems with deliveries, they pay the fine. At the end of the day, Wal-Mart still wins.

 

Oh this is why I do not believe that Walmart will ever get rid of contract carriers because in the big picture of things does not cost Walmart a dime per se... I’m pretty sure that once Walmart looks at their books the overall cost is cheaper because the contract carriers do a cheaper than the private fleet guys as far as cost to Walmart and as far as like the grocery the contract carriers do all the maintenance and any damage repairs on the trailers caused by them.... Walmarts not looking at the picture and saying we want to have zero cost they’re trying to go down the path of least amount of money... the contract carriers essentially supplement Walmart

 

saying walmart wins is like saying we win at war, in the end we all lose. only an idiot thinks otherwise.

 

You're comparing business economics to war? Okay, the biggest similarity is decision-making but stating its a loss at the end of both sounds stupid entirely. Win and loss is what they have in common although that's more common in business and not war. Surviving war may not exactly mean you win but in business, that's exactly what that means. Maybe you should re-evaluate your definition of idiot before commenting on what I say.

 

Good news am drivers. I just heard Greg Smith is leaving! That has to be better than a raise.

 

war IS business economics unfortunately, so yes, war is as much of a business as walmart, the only difference is the ceos of war bring in more profit than the ceos of walmart.
