I’m looking at buying a 00 w900 that has a c15 in it. Truck has 700k on it, rebuilt 30k ago with papers not cat dealer but a diesel shop. In the pic below. Does it look like it’s leaking oil already?

The pic brings up a few questions.
Why didn’t they paint the head?
Part of the oil is baked on,was it like that at rebuild?
If they cut corners on small stuff, did they cut corners elsewhere ?
A good shop will give a itemized bill right down to how many and what size zip ties they used. Do they have that or does it say “gold kit $xxxx labor $xxxx”? -
Rebuild is subjective. To me, rebuild is everything. To others its just 6 new cylinders and bearings.

It’s leaking becuase they went the cheapest route possible to rebuild it. That’s not a 30k dollar cat rebuild. I have a friend that bought a truck rebuilt by a shop. None of the seals were replaced anywhere it seems like. I question the parts in it as well. Never repainted any of the parts while off the motor either.

I would have to see for myself. With that said.....If a $500 air compressor and no paint on the head, a little arbitrary paperwork scares you away, you have a lot of painful lessons to learn!
Stray_Dog, Roberts450 and lester Thank this.
