At this time next year Reddaway will no longer exist. Over the next several months they will be merging terminals with YRC Freight. When the company completes their network optimization which includes merging New Penn and Holland, the end result will be 1 single company called Yellow Freight. Probably not a good idea to go to Reddaway. Good luck driver !

I have an opportunity at Reddaway for the linehaul cdl training program here in So Cal. It’s for a terminal no more than 15 mins away from my house and would work for me. I know what to expect work wise going in.

What’s your opinion on going this route? I have my permit with all endorsements but have been looking to get my CDL somehow since the DMV is so backed up with behind the wheel tests down here.

I figure at worst, if things were to go south in a year, as City Man said, I’d at least have my license with experience in the LTL world and in the local union vs going the Swift/Mega route.

i think it’s a good plan. Use them as a foot in the door in ltl. Better then going OTR route with a mega carrier plus it’s more money then a mega. Actually you’ll make a good living wage better then most truckers with experience. I wouldn’t bet on Yellow as a long term plan. Plus maybe with the combining of brands they might get their head out of their butts and make money.

Means if you work for the non union side doesn’t matter if you have 30 years with the company you go to the bottom of the board behind the union workers.

My thinking exactly. Get enough experience with a safe driving history and I’ll be able to move on to most any LTL company worth going to
