Asphalt is my favorite commodity to haul ........ you’ll either love it or hate it. Is this terminal to terminal or delivering to paving plants...?

None of the Venezia drivers I bumped into at the racks impressed me all that much. But what do I know.....

I'm not totally sure, we get our route info Wednesday I believe. Haven't had the chance to haul asphalt/tar yet but I'm looking forward to learning

It you have to load by sight, looking in the dome cover to see how much is in the tank. Wear a respirator...........if you load on a scale so your no where near the dome cover. I wouldn’t worry about it....

Always long sleeves and eye/face protection. No matter how hot it is out.......

Haven’t hauled tar since 2001 when I worked there but I’m pretty sure it goes to plants.

Pretty much the same as hauling sulfuric, treat it like it can kill you. Is asphalt typically pumped or aired off?

Orientation is now complete. I was issued a 2016 Mack with a 10 speed and I'll be hauling out of Clairton and Warren PA out to Conshohocken, and vise versa. My home time will be exactly what I was hoping for and I'll be home on the weekends. As of now, all of my expectations have been met, and these are some of the nicest people I've ever met. They have honored my prior tanker experience and started me out on a higher pay scale, along with an extra weeks of vacation after a year. Plus a 3k sign on bonus! I'm feeling very good about starting my career here so far.

1st day working was somewhat of a nightmare, but ended fairly well.

I found an air leak on my truck in the morning, and also found the electrical line to be making a bad connection, so I wrote it up. The shop pulled it in and began repairing it. Of course, where there's one air leak, there's several. It out me behind about 20 mins. Now I'm in a hurry...

I got the address to the facility that I was supposed to meet another driver at. I punched it in the GPS and checked the route out, 30 mins away no problems. Who would've thought that there are 2 of the same street addresses in the same city? Of course, I went to the wrong one. I went to make a left turn onto river road and bang, "NO TRUCKS OVER 28 1/2 FT" well sh**. No place to turn around and ever road around me is weight restricted. I found a large driveway to a business and blindsided into it and called into the office. I asked for the phone number of the driver I was meeting and gave him a call. He guided me back to I476 and into the plant perfectly. After accumulating 6 gray hairs and chewing a whole can of snuff, my nerves were finally calmed down a bit.

We both ran empty down to Clairton PA and got loaded, he started his 10 once we were done and I took off back to where we started to deliver. I rolled in about 12:30 am, got empty and went to bed. Today I'm doing it all over again. Very easy run that will pay very well.

pro tip....use the satellite image on your maps app. You can see the layout of where your going & of course make sure it’s a commercial property not a house:)
