I have a 2009 prostar with the incab 5th wheel release... I'm having issues that I can't figure out. The truck has not been used for 9 month's due to a motorcycle accident and then covid....I had the double fitting valve changed before the accident and haven't used it till now. That being said when I apply my parking brakes it unlocks the 5th wheel with air pressure....when I release my breaks the pressure goes away.... the electric switch sounds like its working but I'm stumped...

Release is surely just for the slide?
Is the double fitting valve the the parking brake push pull valve assy? If so I would assume a line was crossed up in the dash.

Release is for the 5th wheel jaws to release the trailer.

Yes factory installed all Werner some US express and England trucks have them. Its a nice option especially on a rainy, snowing or when you are in the mud. You still need to get out and remove your air lines and electrical cable but you don't need to pull your 5th wheel. You can only release it when the tractor brakes are applied so its safe.

That 5th wheel release is actully getting to be pretty common. I know one company i worked for was installimg them on all new trucks as a standard option. Their great to avoid getting dirty reachimg under the trailer. And their great when they work.

That said, try greaseing your jaws and ourgeing your airlines. Could be they are stiff with old grease that has been sitting almost a year. Otherwise no idea.

I had it on the '95 FLD I owned...and all of the company trucks where I work have it.
