My dental coverage is a few hundred bucks a year and doesn’t pay for anything. It’s okay for cleaning but I’ve had a few implants and I paid out the ying yang for those. I’d definitely consider going south of the border. Like others have said, many of them down there are US trained.

My girlfriend is Vietnamese and most working class Vietnamese get all their dental work done over there when they go back to visit. I’d be leary of southeast asian medical services but it’s a completely foreign land to me. The more well off ones just get it done here in Texas. Garland is pretty much Saigon with better food and less chaotic traffic.

A good friend has a vacation house in Cabo, and his family gets all their dental and major medical done there. Happy with the US born and educated dentist.

As a matter of fact, he’s there for a total knee replacement as well as I type this.

1st let me say, this country better get it's head out of it's azx. We all struggle with dental problems, one of Gods cruelest mistakes. Wasn't so bad with $50 cavities and $100 extractions, but these "procedures" are costing thousands of dollars now. Hitting older people the hardest, as that's when these things go to "crisis", depleting our savings and we're old, and can't work to make that up. Ins., of any matter, costs hundreds a month, so it's a horse a piece. Most focus on prevention, well, my teeth are well beyond prevention. Must be incredibly frustrating for these dentists, have the latest in equipment and can't use it.
I had a wisdom tooth blow a gasket last weekend, the corner dentist can't just hack away at it anymore, everything is so GD specialized. There was nothing he could do, except referral to an oral surgeon. Colorado does have assistance for seniors, $300/yr., barely gets you in the door, but it helps. Most of us just put up with the pain until, it subsides.
Far as going out of the country for help, it's true, you may save a buck, but I can just hear it now, when you need an emergency, "Oh yeah, looks like one of those "Mexican" jobs again, doctor", and may refuse treatment. Hey, don't think so? This health care system in the US is so greedy and bakocked, it wouldn't surprise me one bit. We're the only country in the world that does this. Nice, huh?

Like everything else in the body time takes it's toll.
My mother is a retired RN and she once told me
"ya get old the parts wear out" and I guess that includes the teeth.

I can't even get in to my dentist because they have no hygienists due to layoffs during covid.
Called in Feb and have a tentative july appt..lol. But hope to go south b4 then.
    I've read $20 for a cleaning.

The coverage today has not kept pace w cost and when a crown can be a couple thousand even 50% coverage limits options.
I also think that some are just more prone to needed dental repair despite diligent care as a younger person.

Coffey, Chinatown and 201 Thank this.

My mom was a RN for 50 years, and she always said, " Life is like running behind a shooting gallery, and trying not to get hit". When I went to my local dentist, it was business as usual. Receptionist took my temp, anything over 99.8, they can't treat you for fear of covid. AND, I have to drive to Colorado Springs ( about 2 hours) to even SEE a specialist.

Well, perhaps, but I still want to keep the money here. I live in a small town, and we depend on the money staying here. We see these people at the gas station or Walmart, and rely on us to stay in business. These places like food, bars, any non-skilled places are moving out. They simply can't find any help.

tscottme, Numb and Dennixx Thank this.
