"Bailiff, whap his pee-pee",, I never thought I'd see the day when this was asked. Seriously? I suppose, we don't drive '72 Peterbilts anymore. Like any other infraction today, most rules make no sense except to generate money. With all the emphasis on silly rules, I wouldn't chance it.

    I agree.
    "Automatic Restriction"???
I didn't even know that was a thing.
I can't see any reason for a state to issue a class A CDL that only allows the driver to operate automatics.
Perhaps if the driver has a disability that prevents them from operating the clutch and gear shift???

Best I can tell, the reason it exists is to keep ######### under the thumb of the big ATA companies. They won't train them how to drive a stick. Another reason for the auto only restriction, is that the guys trained on automatic don't usually know how to shift a car let alone a big truck. When I took my driving test in a semi, shifting smoothly was a requirement to pass the test. Not knowing how to shift, is dangerous for everyone on the road.

There will be a very limited number of people here who will get that reference. Of course they'll probably need to have Sirius satellite radio to have heard it. I never knew Gilbert was so hard-core until I heard some of his stand-up on there.

The restriction exists only if the driver takes the Skills Test in a vehicle that has an automatic transmission.

Lots of lives have been lost by drivers who couldn't downshift or recover from a flubbed float shift.

I know around here the newer drivers use to coast down huge grades, overheat their brakes and hopefully only hurt themselves but way too often killed someone.

If you can't pass the driving test, which is really easy, in a manual you shouldn't be driving one.

It doesn’t seem like all that long ago I was saying “exhaust fluid” as a joke.
