    Hey y’all!

I’m 26 years old and like a lot of people my age I have moved around a lot in the last three years and been forced to go from job to job for various reasons. And working various jobs I realize what I really don’t like is customer service. So I thought truck driving would be nice since I don’t have to deal with the public at large. I’m not anti social but I am an introvert.

I don’t care about the money I make starting out but I am looking for something that will pay for my training since I’m broke right now. I don’t have anything on my driving record or criminal that would disqualify me but I have failed drug tests for jobs in the past. (One for pet smart and one for goodwill) I’m clean and sober now aside from the occasional drink and smoking of cigs .

Is truck driving something that is on the table for me or should I try something else?
Thank you everyone and stay safe out there!

You probably should consider a different career path.
Depending on what the testing site and employer reports, it could be in a database somewhere.

A lot of the major carriers will house and feed you. You will likely have to room with someone for a time and then live on a truck with trainer. But once you make solo it is awesome! But you’re a rookie so expect to be frustrated and confused at times.
It’s good for an individual like yourself. You can also clean up any social media accounts. They don’t want to see any skulls and grim reapers, in case you get pulled into court. Idk about that drug screen? If there going to pick apart anything that’s it. But you can just call any recruiter and ask. They’ll be happy to here from you. Also.. No matter what any one else tells you to the contrary Use Your GD GPS! At least the one on your phone. But your Qualcomm will have truck specific routing.

    truck driving IS customer service...

how do you expect to deal with the dock workers? the sales rep? the broker? if you were to one day work your way up to owner operator, you're darned tootin to be IN customer service.

it's all we have to offer.....CUSTOMER SERVICE.

that being said, jot down all your jobs, you will need extra paper to do so, from what i gather about you, and if you manage to garner a spot with a training company..STAY THERE, and LEARN how to deal with what else....CUSTOMERS....

Did you get fired from those places because of the failed tests? This make be a sticking point. Trucking companies will have to attempt to verify the last 3 years of employment. 10 years if you were employed in a CDL job and some companies may still want 10 years even in a non CDL job. If you were not working there and failed pre employment tests, then keep your mouth shut about it. The test results will not show up on a normal CDL hire pre-employment check.
If you do get a shot at trucking make up your mind from the get go that drugs have no place in this industry.

As long as he doesn't become an owner operator he can be as nasty as he likes , im only a company driver and iv had a few situations where I was to the point of throwing blows with security guards yet iv never been called in for my bad behavior. Now brokers and direct customers can choose not to work with an owner operator and that bad behavior #### just doesn't fly

well i been at this game for 48 years, before i retired. i was ornery as all hell when i was younger. then something amazing happened....i got OLDER and wiser...

you get better results with respect to others FIRST, than you can ever imagine. nasty, bad behavior is simply not called for, from ANYONE in ANY industry.

yes, security guards are nothing more than minimum wage slugs.....i find that when i treated ANYONE with respect, i got it back...then as i walked away...i'd call that "so and so" a whole lotta names, when i knew they could not hear me, and i smiled all the way back to my truck.....

Apply with one company and don't mention the failed drug test.
If the company finds out and doesn't hire you, then be honest with the next application.
They weren't DOT drug tests, so maybe not public record anywhere.
More than likely, since you've never had a cdl, the work history will only go back 3 years.
