And my experience with West coast freight is significantly different than yours.
Have you looked at moving to more specialized freight?
SoCal/central valley freight to the PNW were my money loads. But I was not skeered of Haz/tanker stuff. That was a couple of years ago, but doubt it's changes that much.

So, if I take a Load to Phoenix to visit my cousin, can I get a load out with my dryvan? Ain’t going to Commiefornia. Not in my Truck anyways, maybe a rental car. Seriously any freight headed east or northeast out of there? Ever? Any specific time of year that’s better? Seasonal cactus loads? Lol. Been meaning to ask for a while now.
