You’ll need insurance, just get your authority and get to running or stay leased on.

May as well run them, why pay 15-25k/year insurance and still have to go through the safety audit, for nothing?

This gains you nothing other than the ability to work with about five brokers that don't like new numbers. Funny thing is, by the time you're running long enough to qualify for them, you'll be turning up your nose at their trash rates anyway.

You won't have to go through a safety audit for a long time. They got me after about a year and a half. This was my 'new entrant' safety audit, by the way. It was over the phone, easy.

i would say don't apply for your dot/mc number till about 4-6 weeks before you need it. having a older number wont gain you anything. they will still look at the date the number went active witch wont happen until you have the proper insurance/filings with the dot.

My husband and I are new on all this

We already have the LLC, MC, DOT... EVERYTHING!
The thing is that the DOT wont let us start hauling because the pick up truck isn't on the company's name (is on my husband's name). All the paper work are on his name and the company name. Now they say we will need to refinance the pick truck, put it under the company's name and start the process all over again.

    Any suggestion?

Commercial lease agreement where you "lease" the pickup to your LLC. My semi truck is in my name.
