I'm with a pretty good company but even so when I decide it's time to quit trucking in a another 4 years I will simply turn down the next outbound pre plan and stay home....we have had several in managing positions here lately suddenly announce retirement and walk out the door.
Loyalty is a 2 way street and it ended in the trucking business many years ago.
I'm well aware that as soon as my services here are no longer needed I'll get about 10 minutes notice as the plate and qaulcomm are being removed from my truck .
Quitting without a notice is a poor move

I agree with most that the respect honor and tradition in the trucking biz has long since flew to coop.
When I retire in 2 years I will simply drop off a letter stating my intentions and begin the next day.
If I worked for somebody that earned my respect and deserved a notice I would, just as I was taught decades ago.nredfor88, Flat Earth Trucker, Lumper Humper and 3 others Thank this. -
Honestly its hard to judge when someone walks off a job why they did so without knowing all the facts. In the OPs example maybe the guy got fed up because of poor treatment you didn't know about. Maybe it was a knee jerk reaction to his wife threatening to leave him unless he found a diffrent job RIGHT NOW. Maybe he found out he has terminal cancer and wants to enjoy the little bit of life he has left and was too broken uo to discuss it. Maybe he was a bad fit for that SPECIFIC job and his stress levels were going through the roof to the point he snapped. Maybe he didnt get along with another employee and just couldn't stand the thought of having to work with them again. Maybe he was just a grade A royal #### stain.
Who knows. Honestly, there are very good reasons to walk off a job. It may not be the most professional thing and is something that I would not and have not done save in EXTREME cases. But it may have been something he NEEDED to do.
Also the ONE thing i will say on the mask bull leavings is this. They suck, i hate them, and i persionally think they do more harm then good even in the unlikely event they work as intended. If for no other reason then they give people something to hide behind and embolden them to act like idiots and ######## which likely has a bigger negitive effect on the spread then not wearing them would.
I still wear mine where required though. But only because i am thinking of my elderly mother who i like to visit occasionally. Still think masks are BS though regardless of effectiveness and regardless if i wear them. And i think you will find this is a pretty common opinion.Last edited: Apr 17, 2021

I used to do the right thing. Give notice face to face. Then last year a company called a bunch of us into the office and handed us walking papers before escorting us off the property. After that I stopped caring. If I quit a job in the future I may or may not give notice depending on how I feel at the moment.

I've always felt it was moral to give sufficient notice, at least 2 weeks. It has helped me out in the long run. My last job I gave 2 weeks and was told I was welcome back if things didn't work out. It's nice to have that peace of mind knowing that I have a cushion to fall back on just in case, and to know that I still hold a good relationship with the company if I would ever refer someone else to work there. I do see both sides of it though, if they were to fire me they sure wouldn't tell me 2 weeks ahead of time. I guess it all depends on the totality of the circumstances

I ALWAYS am super open and honest with any employees I have.
I straight out tell them if they don’t think this job is right for them to let me know, no hard feelings. Some jobs just don’t jive with certain people and if we can both be adults we can have an awesome relationship or an easy time separating.
Unless the boss was a total D-bag, I see no need to straight up quit.nredfor88, Lumper Humper, bzinger and 4 others Thank this.
