So my basic ultra portable tech needs are covered. Standard iPhone and iPad mini... seeing all these new announcements from Apple has me wanting to hand down my regular iPad for something with a bit more screen real estate... first was looking at the new 13.3” MBP M1 as I would like to upgrade my MBP from 2010 which is still technically running but I can no longer run excel or numbers without upgrading either the OS or the hardware so it’s finally very limited, but it served me well for over ten years... which was awesome.

Then I was thinking instead of the new and most entry low level of the new macs lineup, maybe I should stick with the new upper end of the iPad Pro lineup with that new 12.2” micro led screen and four speakers as it would be a very nice upgrade to my current media consumption 9.7” ipad and still be a nice screen size for spreadsheets etc.

But now I’m actually thinking, I have my ultra portable needs met, and this KW has a nice solid table which makes for a nice desk area... and the tv vesa mount is right there... maybe that brand new iMac M1 that is only 11.5 mm thick would be a nice option... a 24” 4.5k screen with better speakers and I live in my truck 26 of 30 days a month... maybe I grab a new ultra thin iMac for media streaming and have a nice full blown computer in the truck and hang it on the vesa mount since it would not need to standing solo but be secured to the mount.

It’s actually kind of nice to have three good options... decisions decisions decisions

and no, I can’t justify buying all three
    But wouldn’t that be awesome
But no, I can’t, they wife would kill me.

    lol

I have the MacBook Air M1 and the iPad Pro 12.9”, I love both but they serve different purposes. With the new M1 chipset, the MacBook can run many iOS apps but not all. The iPad Pro can, with a keyboard, do most things the MacBook can do. But each has its specialty.

Ya, all three are great options… especially now that the M1 is coming to the iPads Pro 11” & 12.9” models… looking forward to seeing what Apple and the iOS Developers can do with all that relative power.

I might update my iPad Gen 5 to the new 11” iPad Pro sooner that later… then decide if I want a MPA/MBP or iMac towards the end of the year.

It’s great having so many great options.

Only bad thing about M1 is no more boot camp, glad I got a 16inch pro just for that. Aka easy dual booting Mac and Windows, I use for gaming and a few Windows only apps.

True, no more boot camp but with this big push towards arm outside Apple even windows programs will be pushed to work in the Windows on Arm environment which may then translate to working on macOS.

Will be interesting where things go.

Yeap, I brought that bootcamp thing up because Apple forums are literally spammed daily with 'how to use bootcamp on new M1 Mac' answer 'You can't' most people did not know this before buying. BTW Windows 10 works incredibly well in bootcamp, I was very surprised.

Rumors are saying a new redesigned MBP with the M1X chip will be announced at WWDC just two weeks away.

new smaller Mac mini is coming soon too.

Most likely due to component shortages. I'm guessing the new 14 and 16 inch MBPs will be out in September, or there about. I've been thinking of upgrading my mid-2015 MBP with the new 16. I need more storage, and my battery is getting weak. I like the direction Apple are going with ARM, but not a big fan of the Big Sur/Monterey GUI. I'll probably do it though. Maybe I can learn to not hate the GUI as much.
