and Bloom was an avid Hockey player in his earlier years! That would put him way ahead of the average person in physical fitness and he still died of a clot.

A friends wife died of them. In the hospital, supposedly stabilized. Another Truck driver friend had one, caught it in his leg. My wife had them on the Truck, 1000 miles from home. We had just commented that this was the first year we didn’t make deductible. Had a healthy year. Wrong it was December 30th. She had Vague chest pain for 6 hrs. Suddenly got worse. Rushed her to Emergency. Pain went from bad to real bad quick. Good thing I took her in. She wanted to lay down for a while instead. She couldn’t breath, screaming in pain. 2 shots of Morphine didn’t help. She has a very high pain tolerance too. 3 days in hospital, blood thinners for 6 mos. while the clots naturally dissolve. I try to walk around within 4 hrs max. I kept telling her to move around more, that it’s a real thing. She was also on a medication that increases chances of clots. Add it all up, she could have died. That’s 4 times in 5 yrs. 3 times for kidney stones, once for a Routine gall bladder surgery gone bad. Her pain tolerance is so high, by the time she’s in the hospital, she’s got sepsis. Crazy stuff, not to be minimized or ignored. It’s easy after years of good health to think symptoms are nothing to worry about. Made me a believer.

Asprin not for everyone. Increases chance of bleeding the older we get. Daily asprin can cause a bleed in the brain (stroke) and other stomach issues. Get advice from a doctor before just popping a daily asprin. But if a person ever feels like a heart attack or stroke is coming on then they recomend you chew up and swallow a full 325 mg asprin and call 911.

I have mutations in 3 blood clotting factors. Didn't know it was hereditary. Had a clot go through a lung a few years ago, just uncomfortable, no big deal physically. Then I went to get scanned and was asked how soon I could get to the emergency room because of clots in my left leg. Got there and the dr looked at my file and gave me an rx for Xarelto. Saw a specialist who said its my choice but if it were him he'd stay on the thinners and he added Folbic (certain B vitamins). Chances of having more clots without were way over 50%. He says as long as I'm on my meds there's no threat of more clots no matter how long I sit. My chiropractor isn't happy unless I stop every 2 to 3 hours.

Don't play with it. If you've had clots once its likely you'll have them again. Death is only part of the effects, stroke and being a vegetable is very possible.

My Dad died from blood clot in the leg that traveled up to his heart. If your truckin then stop every few hours and walk around your rig checking your tires or whatever. In the meantime, flex your calf muscles as you drive.

I was on Xarelto for my clots as well. I'd still be on it except for the fact that it clashed with one of my meds, and caused me to get downright angry at times. Otherwise, that's a good drug.

That the trucking companies haven't publicized the threat of a DVT clot to their drivers shows how much they care about your health. On any long airline flight they will suggest that you get up and move around every couple hours as a guard against this. Trucking companies would rather see their drivers have clots and die than see one of their guys take a chance on being late by stopping a few extra times. Sad.

You really shouldn't sit more than three to four hours without getting up and walking for a bit. If you just got to walk in the truck stop and take a dump or just get out and walk around a rest area..get out and move every few hours..

This is insane! I’ve been following this thread for a few days. A former WFAA (Dallas) news anchor who now works for ABC news, Marcus Moore, just posted on Facebook about having a pulmonary embolism. Said he couldn’t breath and went to the hospital. Asked the Doctor how long he’d be there as he had a flight to catch in the morning. Doctor said he’d be there a minute and was very fortunate to be alive. He’s a young healthy guy too. Scary!
