Trying to help a friend get into trucking and get his class A. He's really not interested in going OTR. Are there any LTL or local companies that will hire a driver out of an accredited truck driving school like Roadmaster for example?

Varies by location. In Portland, OR I was called in to interview with ODFL. The interview was painless enough, but the interviewer told me that he called in 10 people to interview and only one would be getting called back. With my 2 years of driving experience (at the time) it would wouldn't be me. In other locations Old Dominion does hire right out of school. Just where is this trainee driver looking for a job?

Best bet is to either go dock to driver or attend Yellow's FREE truck driving school.

Xpo will hire anyone with a pulse, as long as he passes the background check.

All of the rules for hiring are changing. The rules from two years ago are much different today. At my terminal the terminal manager is complaining that two competitors are offering $10,000 bonuses for people with experience. He says no one is even applying for our location. The best thing that you could do is contact the terminal manager for each location of the terminals that your friend would be interested at. Just remember that whatever they tell you the requirements are could all change the next day. We did just hire a young lady just out of truck driving school. She worked the dock January through March and was allowed to go onto the road April 1st.

@HiramKingWilliams got on with an LTL outfit right out of school. He's since quit that job and gone into fuel hauling. Maybe he'll respond and give you some tips.

I can tell you from experience, that the best way to do it is by starting the job search now and making a long list of companies that will potentially hire locally without experience. Asking others for recommendations is fine, but I wouldn’t take a few of those from people who don’t even live in my area over my own research.

Would hate to spend all that money for driving school only to find out that none of the recommended companies are hiring in my area, and all I can get is bottom tier $18/hr jobs or OTR work.
