Not really, that I know of, except that I hated just about every other job, besides Trucking. Including Loading Flatbeds with steel, changing Truck tires, and a few Farmers Market gigs. Except for 5 yrs. before age 21. Been Driving ever since. Had a job at 17 Driving a Local Route. Lost my License for a few yrs. Otherwise I’d been Driving. 37 yrs now. When I started Driving T/T, at 28, I gained a lot of respect and self esteem. Never seemed to impress anyone else though. Lol. Not my goal anyway. Before then. never thought of myself as a Professional. I’ve always had respect for Truck drivers. My Dad drove. I had a very good understanding of what to expect. It’s what you make of it. No regrets. All jobs have a downside. Helps if you enjoy the work. Always a challenge. Even after 30 yrs. T/T, I enjoy it.

Very good advice, Jason, thank you.
Yes, I'm seeing that attitude is a huge part of trucking (and for most other careers for that matter).
I see trucking as performance based. Make yourself valuable to your company and the rewards will be there.

Meh, that’s not important unless, of course, you’re a Kentuckian. If that’s the case, I would like to invite you to Frank’s FREE Truck Driving School!

If I understand correctly, you’re feeling a bit underwhelmed and under appreciated with teaching. I didn’t see any mention of the grade level you teach. I assume high school or below.

Have you considered moving up to the college ranks or, perhaps, advanced high school students? I did both when I was in the corporate world (I’m a retired CPA turned truck driver).

I tutored advanced math to high school students for a couple of hours a week. And, I was an adjunct a couple of nights a week at the local university where I mostly taught accounting classes.

I enjoyed that kind of teaching as *most* of my students wanted to be there and wanted to learn. But, that was 15 years or so ago. I’m sure a lot of the adult education is probably online anymore.

Also remember operations will push your buttons.
Be firm but fair do not become a door mat
For them. Otherwise they will use and abuse you.

speaking of bored, remember the kid that came on here and asked what we do to occupy ourselves while we drive all day?

he actually asked if we watched a movie WHILE DRIVING??!!:confused:

Frank's FREE Truck Driving Skewl! Tell me more! ;)
7th grade language arts and social studies in a small desert district.
To be frank (see what I did there?) I just don't have the drive like I used to. I do the minimum of what is required of me, which is not good. I used to be very vocal in meetings, volunteered for extra activities, always taught summer school, and stayed on top of new teaching techniques and technology. Now I'm quiet and dread having to learn new stuff for the classroom. Not good signs. Again, I'm also disheartened where public education is going (Critical Race Theory? Really? I'll probably get fired for speaking out on that one for sure).
My dad did something similar. He was tops in medical sales in Florida. Made great $, but eventually lost the drive he had. He retired and became a limo driver and worked in a funeral home until 80. He has no regerts.

Most money I have ever made, truly life changing. No other job I want to do. I got a pretty late start in my mid 40s. Wish I had started sooner, but doubt I would have had the patience and mental fortitude to last if I had tried it in my 20s.

When I was driving early one morning to my college campus for my first day in 1984, I, for some reason, was captivated by the trucks; especially tankers. I remember thinking to myself, "Should I be doing that instead?"
I wonder if that revelation will hit when I start training.
