He's had more 1000 mile days than you've had days.

Been down every pass in Georgia overdrive.

Driven more miles backwards than you have forward.

Been to every peehole town in the country and remembers them all.

There's nothing he ain't done and better than anyone.

He's got a woman or three in every city.

 

I was just told that’s how the old drivers did it you walked into dispatch and was handed a stack of bills and a handful of pills

They tried that crap on me during my first year out here.
I said no. I woke up this morning waiting for a load, and now I am getting ready for sleep.
Being ready to drive does not include trying to sleep at every hour waiting for a load that might go overnight.

I still say no to that kind of thing.

Trucking may be a 24/7 business, but I am not.
Those night runs go to night running drivers, which is not me.

 

Perhaps he has a reefer parked next to him/ her? Unfortunately doing long haul work you'll be paid by the mile so still may do the hours but not really be getting paid for them the argument I suppose is if your not driving then your not working. So if that is the case you can only legally drive for 11 hours in a 14 hour period plus any refueling, prestart and post trip checks. Check with the FMCSA website the max amount of hours you can legally drive for is 8 then you must have a 1/2 break then you could drive another 3 hours before you've used up your full 11 hours if however you have not driven for 11 hours but 14 hours have now passed you can not legally drive a commercial vehicle till you've had 10 hours rest. E.g you start work at 6:30 am you can not do any driving work in a commercial vehicle after 8:30 PM (20:30) or once you've completed 11 hours of driving which ever comes first. Example [ii} you start driving at 6;45 am after a 15 min prestart you drive for 6hours and 15 minutes till 13:00 you then have a 1 hour break start driving again at 14:00 you now have 4:hours 45 minutes left so you drive till 18:45 your full 11 hours are now up you can not legally be on the road in a commercial vehicle and must now take a 10 hour break despite the fact that your 14 hours are not up till 20:30.

 

You are in control of how you run your truck, and yourself.
And you are responsible for anything bad that happens because of what you decided to do.

No one can MAKE you do anything - remember that!

Sometimes I have to run into the late hours, or start in the wee hours.
But I will have at least 12 hours between shutting down and driving - no matter what.
And I do NOT drive overnight hours. That is when I sleep.

I drive safe and on time, but on my terms - not theirs.
