I like that idea of incentivizing results. Stevens also has goals for the trainees. They have to do two mountain passes, and bump a NE dock. But yeah, making the quality of the driver reflect in the reward of the trainer is a good idea.

I like this idea - had not thought of this. Thank you!

The tanker company I used to work for paid the trainer $125/day plus his normal driver pay for the load. I forget if he was normally paid a percentage or paid CPM.

Our guys get a straight $3 bucks per hour so between 30 and 45 per day extra.

Idk if ours get extra cpm; they do get all of the trainees miles and like a $500 bonus if the trainee successfully upgraded to solo.

My sister said her swift trainer got a few cpm off her miles for the first 6-12mos.

I’m a finisher at my company. I get $500 extra per week plus the extra miles that the truck runs. If the trainee is with me over 3 days, I get the full $500. If not, then it’s $100 per day. My trainees come to me ready to go solo. We run out west and back so I can grade them. When we get back, it’s either solo, more training or shown door. I use to train full time, but that got old for these old bones, now I do it once or twice a month.

This is the way to get the best results and actually train the new driver. If companies actually cared, they'd reward you much more financially for doing it this way.

You're doing the right thing helping these new drivers and I wish you got the proper compensation for it.
