If there could be any humor in this, there it is. Proof positive, it's not the ice, but distracted driving wins again. It's terrible to say, but a gesture of kindness turns tragic, and it's probably best, to save yourself in these situations, and roll by and let the emergency crew do their job. They kind of expect to get hurt. Until phones are disabled when entering a vehicle, this will go on and on.Trucker61016 Thanks this.

Im guess distraction, possibly looking at their phones, i regularly see it on that stretch of 81 because its actually so straight i think people get complacent and dont watch the roadBean Jr. Thanks this.

No, it was raining very hard and he lost control.

"Lost control", so that's the excuse? Well, sorry family, I just "lost control",,,that should cover it. Sorry, I ran through plenty of nasty weather and never once "lost control". That's kind of a oxymoron, control should never be lost. What if the pilot "lost control" or a bus driver losing control. It rarely happens because they are trained how to handle a situation, and not lose control, or people will die. Too bad that same mentality doesn't carry over to some truck drivers today.D.Tibbitt, Team818, Trucker61016 and 1 other person Thank this.

Over 60 you will hyrdoplane on most vehicles. Don't know about trucks, but I would assume it would be a higher number due to weight. But this is a typical SUV accident, short wheelbase/high center of gravity and going too fast. Once you lose control with them it's rare to get it back.Bud A., 201, mjd4277 and 1 other person Thank this.

I hope they had life insurance. Everyone needs to have at least an accidental death insurance policy for their families. I hope they get paid if they did have a policy. They might have to wait because they were out of their vehicles assisting. I hope that isn't a LOOP hole in the policy. They can SUE the hades out of the driver that killed thems Insurance Company that's for SURE. Get your policies there folks, especially Truck Drivers.

May God bless them and their families. Most would have just driven by but they gave their lives to help strangers.
Bud A. Thanks this.
