As a professional driver your first and formost issue should always be keeping the public and yourself safe.
There is no issue regarding 8/2, 7/3, or running 11 out of 14 that matters more than your safety.
I can tell you first hand there will always be a load that a dispatcher will want you to run his way, But let me tell you from first hand, you are the one who will have to answer "Why would you do that".
If you believe you are in or going to be in a situation that is dangerous to you, or the public it is your responsibility to change it to a safe situation.
Hours of service is a minimum guideline, not an absollute, meaning your 10 hour break may be 12 or 13 hours if that is what it takes for you to continue your trip safely.
I have left companies for insisting that your moving at the 10 hour 20 minute mark. I decide when I am going to move the rig, not a dispatcher.
On the other hand I do not advocate stroking it either, I believe in giving 100%, because I was taught to give a good days work for a fair days pay.

I agree... I tend to take a shower at the end of my drive shift, But I get it. I am open to do a occassional favor for a dispatch as long as it can be conducted in a safe legal manor. I personally dont care much for the 30 minute break, the new rules do improve it some.

I disagree. They invested a lot of money on the equipment and on the driver as well. They absolutely have the right to expect that equipment moving as soon as it's legal. If ten hours for resting ain't enough, maybe a doctor's visit is in order.
Bills only get paid when wheels are turning (sounds like a country song).

So let's say you wake up after a 10 hour break and you drive 30 miles when dispatch calls and says hey shut down for another 10 we have a repower for you and it you'll need to drive all night. Does it make sense to you that is not good for your circadian rhythm , or are you just one of those new guys with a week experience pulling a dry van, heaven for bid a local driver on a schedule?

I agree, 10hrs is usually not enough for me to shower, eat, relax a bit, and get enough sleep. I prefer at least 12. That said, if I'm on a tight load I will push and be up and ready at the 10hr mark. And even if I take 12+hrs off I will run 500+miles if needed. Though my company is definitely not one of those that's calling a driver at 10hrs 5min asking why they're still stopped. If I'm good for otd, I'm generally left alone.

If they force a driver to roll when he's HOS legal but fatigued, the amount of money they invested in the equipment will be a drop in the bucket compared to what they'll have to pay out in legal fees, damages, and replacing the equipment.

I am not late. but don't call at 10 hours and 30 minutes asking why I am not rolling. You asked me to drive this truck. That means I will plan on how far I will drive, where I will get fuel, the expense of the fuel and when and where I will shut down all the whole arriving early for my appointment. If you want to micromanage from the office, bring me to the yard so I can load up my pick up and go to the house.

Doesn't matter, when im driving im captain of the ship and decide when i get rolling.....if they don't like it, they'll have to find someone else then, because i refuse to compromise on my need for sleep for a load of cheese ....
