I don’t know sir. I think that was more of 70s-80s thing. The clearinghouse reports 52,000 positives in 2020, mostly for marijuana. That ain’t all old guys, and it ain’t pill popping.

It’s still an ongoing issue, otherwise the Feds wouldn’t have started a clearinghouse in the first place!;)
Obviously they’re getting sick and tired of all the BS and trying to nip the matter in the bud!

Anyone can "claim" anything as we've "heard" and "seen" for decades.

Maybe I used 2 Paper Logbooks, maybe not. They were CHEAP, like Mad Magazine.
Theoretically, Hours were available at Petro Truck Stops, 10 Hours for $1 or $2 in the Restaurants.
That was or wasn't available in the early 2000 Decade. Ask any Old Hand, Good Luck.

"I may have used pills, potions, lotions and motions to achieve some fantastic (or fabricated) results in Freight Relocation and I may have not".
I will admit to easily obtained Legal substances: Caffeine, BC Powders, Mountain Dew, STOKE.
    I obtained ZERO TRUCKING ACCIDENTS.
    CHEERS!!

Don’t forget the Stacker 2 pills that are sold at some truck stops..;)
(Those have been around since the late 90s,BTW)

However there are some drivers out there who still think they can drive/operate a CMV like it’s still the 1970s/1980s/1990s. They don’t want to change/adapt and b**** and moan about the new regulations when they had a chance to avoid it in the first place-and they blew it!!

As it is,FMCSA is putting the kibosh on some of this stuff. I said it elsewhere that if we (truck drivers) don’t make changes the government will do it for us-and we’re not going to like it.
And this is the end result.
(We had more than 20 Years worth of warning)

I didn't "think" about those "pills" or the 3 & 5 hour "boost" juices as well the Monster and related "formulas".
I did give a go at a 5 Hour Energy drink about 6 or 7 years back but it failed to work as I was rather exhausted.

Yeah, if you are exhausted those 5-Hour Energy things will just leak right out of your ears.

Add Old Dominon Freight Lines to the list. Their new trucks are coming with road facing cameras. All the older trucks currently in use will be getting fitted for road facing camera's shortly. The camera's will not be driver facing at this time.

For those of you wondering, the cameras are a result of all the accidents and lawsuits. Most trucking companies insurance companies are requiring them to put them in. The lawyers and mass tort lawsuits have fueled all the camera crap. It'd be nice if all passenger vehicles were required to have them as well, because 80% off all accidents involving a four wheeler and a tractor trailer are the fault of the wheeler.

In the next 5-10 years, it will be a DOT Mandate that all trucks whether company owned, leased or owner-operator will have at minimum a road facing camera, if not a road and driver facing camera. Count on it.

I hired a driver with 11 years of experience and a driving record as clean as the preacher's sheets. Seemed like he knew his stuff, had parked his authority to do a home-daily job for us when his kid was born. Cameras caught him blowing past a 45 mph speed limit sign at 65 mph while talking on a handheld phone. It wasn't his first or last time doing very bad stuff on camera. He didn't drive for us very long after that.

I trusted his good driving record. I don't trust driving records anymore.

Yeah, it's definitely not good for the industry to have jokers like that running out there. Sorry for your bad experience and it's a good thing you canned him before he took you with him. I see guys running all the time that are very likely to have years behind the wheel that should be pulled off the road.

But that doesn't change my opinion on cameras. I don't think the few really bad apples should spoil it for those among use that take driving seriously, want to do a good job, and foremost want to get home safely--and demand to not have cameras in our faces.
