They offered me to start at $24. The contract says $17. He said since I would start at $24, I wouldn't get a raise until the contract caught up. Which was 2 or 3 years. I didn't take the job tho. I've never worked at a union job, so I've only had 401ks. Not sure which is better.

Is their a reason why you didn't take the job if you don't mind me asking? -
I went with OD, they offered me more money (starting pay and top out) and are probably half the distance from my house. Just had a better feeling when I stepped into ODs terminal. They made me feel like I was joining a team.Buffalonytrucker92 Thanks this.

They wouldn't be able to hire anybody if they tried to start people out at $17 per hour. In my neck of the woods Walmart's starting people out at $14 an hour and the big theme park around town is starting out at $15 per hour.Texas_hwy_287 and Buffalonytrucker92 Thank this.

Right, that's why they got approval to start people at $24 and $25.Buffalonytrucker92 Thanks this.

If you are starting at a 2nd or 3rd rate, then yeah you would have too see what's in next contract to see your raise. Unless contract negotiations get delayed, then you would go to top rate per this contract.
I know the pension was one of the confusing things they were trying to hash out.
They might have to negotiate a TForce pension come contract negotiations. I a GUARANTEE a pension will be in the details when that happens.im not real sure and Buffalonytrucker92 Thank this. -
Pensions are a good thing until the company files for bankruptcy. Don’t think fedex, UPS or any large carrier is too big to fail. No one would of thought Sears holding would be where it’s at today 40 years ago, or that Amazon a book online retail would be giving fedex/ups a run for there money.
tons of Detroit city workers lost there pensions due to the city filing for bankruptcy, and ultimately the employees/former ate it.Texas_hwy_287 and Buffalonytrucker92 Thank this. -
Im a long time employee of OVNT/MC/UPGF/TFORCE, and i dont know what new hires are facing, but there are 3 medical options.
Kaiser, a no pay, and the one i have which is a PPO thats $135 a month and covers all family members. The Pension is still here and taken over By TForce at least untill 2023 when the contract ends. We also have a 401k with TForce no match.
As far as work, its up and down... we are in a transition, and there is a lot of unknown. But we have been down this road a couple times before.
Nothing catastrophic has happend yet in 20+ years that I've experienced yet. Alain Bedard seems to want to work with the teamsters, and also seems excited about finally putting some money into this company. UPS gave up in 2013 in my opinion, and Carol Tome couldn't wait to get rid of us .
I think we are in for some positive changes, and a company we can be proud to retire from.Buffalonytrucker92 Thanks this. -
That's what the guy that interviewed me said. They are hiring people at a higher tier because nobody would apply at bottom tier. But the the tier they are hiring at would take 2 to 3 years to get to. So you can't get a raise until the contract catches up to that point. Since the contract is up in 2 years, who knows what it will be. I'm sure it will go up tho. The pension was very confusing. He did say that I would not be in the UPS one. I definitely remember him saying it would be a 401k. He also said that UPS is planning to go to a 401k. This was a regional manager and was the first day they switched to Tforce. I went with OD and love it so far. The guy at UPS has called me to ask if I would reconsider tho. I'm happy here and it's a lot closer to my house.Buffalonytrucker92 Thanks this.

That sucks that their is no match on 401k how is a young supposed to save for retirement. I'm already behind. Now I gotta play catch-up.BeHereNow97 Thanks this.
