Got a 2014 Volvo 730 that im being told by the dealer that so far the batteries, ECM, and all modules so far. I must say this is all new to me never had anything hit by lightning. Does anyone know what other things this could of damaged on the truck. I told them to make sure the APU is tested also. Is there a check list of things to check in a lightning strike truck?

    bzinger Thanks this.

All ECU's, all. Seen it many times. You and your insurance company need to understand, and have the repairing shop put on paper, that failures can occur at a later date that we're caused by the lightning.

I have repaired a Gm pickup that was struck by lightning. Every single module, lightbulb, wiper motor, and a few of the sensors with chips in them. This was for a private fleet. Any where else it would have been written off.
That's the direction I'd be pushing for.

Not from lightning but hitting power lines I've heard of wheel seals and even bearings going bad.

We had lightning hit our control van on a frack site. 4 days down and lots of $$$$$$ to fix that one.

One time lightning hit the ground between our crane and the frac van. Don't know why it didn't hit the 129' steel lightning rod, but it didn't. Still it did $30k damage to the frac van, and the crane company totalled the crane and sent us a new one.

Yes I ran over power lines in my Ford explorer when I was 16 (dark outside, storm knocked them down) and blew out 2 tires the next day pulling out of my parents driveway. The tires looked like they were 90 years old

Plan on replacing anything electrical at some point. Even harnesses get charred.
