Probably a 470, 60 series, they were good solid engines.

Id stay away if it is a 500 Detroit, they had problems.

 

The only thing I can tell you for sure about the 12.7 Detroit is that if it's got anywhere near eight hundred thousand miles on it replace the bull gear.

Also I have a friend that is a mechanic and he has told me countless times that the bottom end on that engine is so super mega heavy duty it is Way Beyond what you could ever even imagine.

They really are great engines.

 

^^^^^,If it's a DDEC 3 not so much, DDEC 4 is a must better engine...

 

You're not a series 60 guy, are you? PK or bk are the premium engines, and have piston coolers. Other than that, there's no disadvantage to DDEC 3 compared to 4.

 

Oil pressure is fine, but it'll likely be a bit lower after running all day.

Can't really tell much on blowby by pulling the dipstick. Only good way to measure it is with a manometer, but I've seen many that measured over specs that used less than a gallon in 10k.

Only way to know for certain is run it.

Oil pressures right on the money. Also around 40-42 at operating temp, 1500 rpm. The blow by is a common problem. Pretty much a normal nuisance. Sounds good. Looks like it’s got a new waterpump. Blow by tube is a better place to check. I’ve heard it’s sometimes steam from leaking top o rings on injector(s) . Don’t really know. Sometimes it’s a lot more apparent though. Especially when hot and humid, after running all day. Pk or BK as mentioned. Others such as MK, built after May 98 have drilled blocks with caps. Cooling nozzles can be added.
