Yeah I'm gonna call them tomorrow. There website says they train if you have no experience.
Intermodal O/O can you gross 800-1000 a day?

They used to have only a few trainers, they wanted me to be one, but I didn’t want to train again, and I was in my truck, told them if we could use their truck for training I’d do it.
They used to put the trainees on the short out and back runs, meaning you’d be back to the terminal that afternoon.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -

I just got into the intermodal game in Boston a month ago. I'm hauling containers from the port (and I park the truck 10 mins from the port, that's very important!).
It's a grind. I bought a 2012 Volvo VNL670 sleeper for cash. Title in hand. Don't get a loan if you can avoid it. You'll need that extra money for maintenance. Intermodal beats up your rig.
I'm averaging between $2500-$4000 gross. It's so variable. It all depends on live load and unload time. If you're getting live unloaded for 3 hours and lose your 2nd run, then you're screwed. Then it's a snowball.....the next day you're behind the 8 ball.
I've had good days too though. This past week I grossed over $3700. I did $3200 the other week. It's also all about the ships that come in. Boston was slow last week....but now we're busy as hell. I actually turned down a round trip Syracuse run was gonna be $1200 for one day (10.75 hrs drive time from beantown).
Another thing, don't depend on the 70 hour crap. The port is closed on the weekends in my neck of the woods. My company that I'm leased on to has Saturday work but I need the work life balance. I'm not gonna work on the weekends just to give it all to uncle sam.
I'm happy with grossing $3000 or so. 50 to 55 hours a week. After fuel, maintenance , insurance and other deductions I usually take home about $2000. Then I save about half of that.
OP: if you wanna make $5000 a week then just do regional or Short OTR.
Btw, I have Hazmat, Doubles triple's, tanker and a Twic.
Hazmat pay is good but hard to find local.
Good luck!! Buy a truck for cashLast edited: Apr 23, 2021

Running Georgia ports 3500-4k a week is doable working 6 days a week. If you are staying with the load and not going home daily you chance of consistently grossing that is doable granted your carrier has the work. After 1 year of running ports and local intermodal Im moving on to otr and regional work. Intermodal is very hard on the truck and local rates are laughable and definitely not 800-1000 day. From my experience in trucking you pay a big price to be home daily.

At the Port of Virginia in Hampton Roads and Chicago yes. I’m currently working out of the port of Virginia and last week I grossed $4200 and was home every day for 5 days of work, I had close to 10hrs left on my 70. You either get held up at the port, customer live load or traffic. For Chicago intermodal I have family work there who also gross $3/5k a week depending how they want to run as well. Don’t get me wrong OTR van the best paying ! But home everyday and having a spot to park my rig makes life a little more simpler. Next year I’m gonna try OTR van in the Northeast to Atlanta out of Virginia. My 2016 Freightliner Cascadia sleeper truck is paid off too makes my choices easier. Fuel cost average is $650-$750 I’m getting close to 7.8 mpg no mountain driving I’m using my TCS fuel card better discounts / $40 plates-permits / $35 occupational insurance/ $12.50 for my own BT insurance is what it costs me a week ELD/EZ Pass are free charge.
