It depends on what it is and who’s at fault. I’ve had shippers send product that was out of date that had to be trashed. I’ve had wilted spinach that was my fault. It was deducted from the load pay and I owned it.

Not sure, but there are load insurances going on in the movement of fresh produce, fruits, fresh meats can be switched to now being a frozen meat, but that is really not my expertise. I am going to be working for a Refrigeration Co soon. Orientation is Mon or Tue the 16th. UA, driving test, meet everybody. Very tiny company. I can sit and talk with the Owner as long as he is not too busy.

Had a load of yogurt where one pallet was refused because it was loaded on error. Talked to the broker the cost of bringing it back exceed the value of the product, so the yogurt was donated

It depends but if you run your reefer at the correct temperature and load is secured then you should not be responsible. Sometimes produce is rejected due to quality or some boxes get crushed. In that case the customer/broker has to pay to take it back or deliver to another location, and you can usually negotiate a rate that you want just be reasonable.

Actually none of what anyone claims so far matters. All that matters is what is in the contract (rate con, carrier packet, etc.) As you, or your carrier are that ones who signed the contract only you or your carrier can answer that question.

What others are talking about may or may not be common practice, they are by no means guaranteed.

If anyone can, they will pin it on the driver first. Get everything in writing, and a new rate con before you move. I got stuck with pineapples for a week because they were not sweet enough...
