My boyfriend who is starting his own hotshot trucking company talked about needing a tablet. One he could use for his ELD. His birthday is in a few weeks and I'd love to get him one. I need some suggestions please.

I'm an ios guy myself (iPhone and iPad) I think you will find the ios devices to last longer. They are a bit expensive. Just know this. I recommend you not buy a used or refurbished device from eBay or Amazon. I have been burned recently. You can expect to pay anywhere from $400 to $1000 for a new iPad.

Ive had exactly the reverse experince. Company i used to work for required IoS for their load and ELD program. Had to scan a barcode at the tank batterys we picked up from and about half the #### time in winter id get out when it was 10 below and the screen would crack or just stop working within seconds. Also didnt like vibration much at all got maybe a month out of them on averagem
Ive always used galaxy tabs and only ever had to replace one and that was when i switched carriers.jamespmack and A_Jackie Thank this. -
I never mentioned the Android devices. In fact, I love to insult my friends that use them as they me! My take is to use what makes you the most comfortable. I do however stand behind my don't buy used or refurbished comments. I would be almost willing to say that at least half of all the so-called refurbished devices on places like eBay have been opened and have no adhesive! This is a recipe for trouble. It's not just the water! It's dust!

Does it matter if it has cellular capabilities? Wi-Fi?

He should be able to use his phone for a hotspot if he needs data for the tablet (say to email his logs to a DOT officer). Most tablets come with wifi and bluetooth as standard equipment. If you get a cellular capable tablet it will need a data plan to connect.
