Thinking about moving away from KeepTruckin. Too many problems lately with their Gateway disconnecting from the phone or tablet, which is followed by too many software updates - most likely adding hundreds of spying features. For instance, the truck start moving but the app is not seeing it for 3-5 minutes. The same thing after you stop....
Also, too much frustration with their overseas customer service:
They always end a troubleshooting call "Don't worry sir, we'll escalate this, Don't worry sir our engineering team will look at this and find solution asap..." Asap in their world means "never".
Useless.
Is Garmin ELD still DOT complaint?

Took forever for him to understand palletized freight won’t go in a hopper easily, nor out, it’s not a convertible hopper, which he didn’t know what that was either. -
I've been running Garmin ELD for a few days simultaneously with KeepTruckin that's malfunctioning - will need to replace the gateway, if I decide to stick to it.
Garmin is run unofficially as I am testing and getting familiarized with it but the logs are conducted for real. I can completely switch over any time now.
It is FMCSA complaint.
It is a simplistic system. Easy to pair and hook up. Cheap and with no subscriptions. Once you buy the plug, it can be used forever or until is no longer supported by the manufacturer and taken off FMCSA list.
The data is stored only on the local device - phone or tablet so it is important to remember to back it up. By no means, a spying system that collects data and try to make use of it. I am not sure how it is programmed to accommodate current flexed HOS that went into effect a year ago e.i. 7/3 sleeper berth or stopping 14 hour clock but if someone understands the rules then it does not matter what the display shows. As a matter of fact, I found Keep Truckin in error a few times that resulted from wrong programming. Perhaps for a fleet management, a more sophisticated system with a central administrative analytical platform is better but for a solo o/o it should be a good, inexpensive solution. The only thing I could be missing from KT is the IFTA module which records miles and fuel purchases, automatically generates trip reports - it is question whether their format would pass an IFTA or IRP audit though but if so, it greatly facilitates IFTA reporting - however, even there I found some minor discrepancies with mileages. -
I have to correct odometer readings occasionally with Keep Trucking, nothing major, but sometimes it doesn't keep any and other times it will duplicate entries.
It had duped from.where I stopped at midnight, and I check it often.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
It was off a mile, 172 instead of 173.

I am fully on Garmin now. Tossed out the Keep Truck gateway to the closet. Mainly, the switch was caused by Keep Truckin gateway failure to upload its firmware update. They authorized replacement but they can't send it due to...chip shortage. lol
Garmin does everything correctly, seems it incorporated the newer split sleeper rules well. Just have to acquire a daily regimen of backing up data and go back to old fashion IFTA trip reports. I think I will stick to it for good. Kind of wish I had gotten it from the very get go.
I have not cancelled the KT subscription yet but unless I receive the gateway replacement within next few days, I will cancel and demand refund.KB3MMX, Pamela1990 and BigTizle Thank this.
