I've never ran asphalt here, I'm on the tar side. We use the same trailers though, 7500 gal tanks. I like it! I really don't do anything but load the trailer. Customers all have their own hoses and pumps and most of them say "I'll wake you up when you're empty". Usually 45 minute unloads or less. Not sure how the daycab life is but my highest gross check here was over 2 grand for one week, sleeping in the truck 4/5 nights. I like that they pay you for all your time too. They paid me 26 hrs of detention ($23/hr) cause the shipper screwed up a lab analysis, no questions asked!

Wow that's awesome! I'm hoping the local side is the same way. Where I was at, it's pay by load and there's zero other compensation. So either you make your loads for the day or your check is going to suck.

I'm even going to offer to go out for 1 day every so often or when they need something delivered.

Man, you've got me excited for this!

I'd ask for a truck with a flat top sleeper. They're still light enough to haul the weight and you have a bed to stay out if you want. I hauled 52,140 out of Warren PA and was only 79,680 gross when I ran a flat top Mack. Only downside is fuel capacity, it only held 150 gal total.

I can only speak for us guys up here in PA, but they do take care of us as far as paying us for everything we do. Any detention, breakdown, maintenance, layover, ect...we get paid hourly for. Plus the mileage rate is the same loaded or empty and you can increase it by pulling 25+ tons which you generally always will. I can't see FL being any different than up here

That sounds like a good plan. That's what I was worried about with sleeper trucks was the weight. I will definitely make sure to ask that when I meet with my driver manager. Also, in the last 7 years, the only truck I haven't driven yet is a Mack. So I'm eager to get one lol.

Everything just sounds fantastic. I wonder if there's anyway I could use your name as a reference?

Also, do they require covid vaccine? I sincerely hope not.

I like my Mack a lot. It doesn't win any races but I keep up with all the long hoods pulling the big hills out of Warren. Definitely run better than the Pete's and Internationals we have. The autos aren't that great in my opinion, but a lot of guys love them. They do not require a vaccine and have no plans on doing so.

That's good. I'd hate to have to turn down a job for that.

I'll let them know! Appreciate all the help! I'll be sure to update how my experience goes!

First day of training over. Orientation was online so no need to talk about that. Asphalt is simple as can be. I've enjoyed my first day of training. Just not used to this whole day shift thing.

However, they picked up a new contract for another product. So my training got put on hold for the foreseeable future to run that. So I got a truck, I run empty, load, bring it back down and drop it.

I don't want to be too specific at the moment. Like a 400 mile round trip or so. Money won't be the greatest, but it'll be the easiest money I think I've ever earned running local and its only a 7.5 hour day.

All in all, first day wasn't so bad. I'm excited to help the company secure a contract and I'm excited to get started on asphalt...eventually lol.

Glad to hear it's going well so far, are you mileage or hourly if you don't mind me asking? I'm surprised the asphalt plants aren't 24 hrs like they are up here. Did you end up in a Mack?
