Risk of using a Freight Dispatcher?

No risk if everything is legit. You’ll give up some percentage but hopefully they earn you back more then what that percentage is. Sort of like an accountant. I don’t care what he/she costs if they are saving me as much or more then they charge. Or, some use dispatch to take work off their plate. There has been a lot of 5% dispatch services pop up though which is not even close to enough IMO. Ymmv

As far as being a broker and dispatcher, yes, plenty legal but I would have two separate companies.

Carrier and broker. Was a carrier first. Book loads and dispatch an owner op but that’s not a dispatch service. He’s leased on. I considered starting a dispatch service but didn’t see enough money in it for the headache. For me personally.

 

As long as youre not calling a broker, posing as a carrier, then re-brokering the freight you'll be all right. I know a lady who runs a dispatching service. Its a lot of work and requires constant communication between the brokers you book loads with and the drivers you book them for. Im sure if set up right it could be reasonably profitable but its not going to be an easy walk in the park.

 

I’m a dispatcher and it’s a lot of work. When it boils down to it, my company assists our drivers we staying loaded, negotiating the best rates, honoring HOME TIME, paperwork, compliance, we also stay updated on FMCSA rules and regs and communicate. My husband was a driver before we started this and I see every driver like it’s him. Your work keeps this country running!!
