Considering pulling the trigger on new profession.

Only thing I’ll add - if you’re miserable in a job - change it.

 

Have you gotten commercial insurance quotes yet? I'd start there before wasting any time. There's a good chance you won't like what you hear. You'd be better off getting a little experience in someone else's truck too before jumping into a very high overhead unforgiving business environment.

 

I’d say that you should have at least 20-30k in the bank in reserve after your all set up and equipment is bought. But I would be very careful entering this industry as an owner op from another occupation. Might want to look into a company gig for a little while to make sure you really want to do this, otherwise it’ll be one of the most costly experiments you’ll ever do…. Trust me.

Invest in a muti family unit with your funds and keep doing what you doing .

 

Too many people steering people away. If Trucking was as horrible as some of yall say. All yall wouldn't be driving. I keep seeing people coming up with the worse case scenario an making it the norm.

Trucking is profitable. It has ups an downs like every industry.

Now I would suggest be a driver till you find the right equipment.

Box trucks are bottom tier Trucking. To many non cdl holders an hustlers.

 

I would say you shouldn't look at this industry as being less nonsense. Especially at the bottom, as a rookie.

The only reason I made it through the gauntlet is because I started at 23 and didn't know any better.

If I had to be my age now and give away all the free labor I did at Schneider, I would've been laughing as I walked for the employee parking lot after a month. If that long.

As long as you know what you're getting into, go ahead. Things are great here at the top of the industry.

But there will be quite the learning curve, and an entirely new lifestyle to contend with. It's a lot to deal with.

 

I voted maybe, but I'm leaning toward "no."

 

Are you a -very- savvy business person/entrepreneur with a relentless drive to see yourself succeed and a near-bottomless reserve of energy and mental fortitude to see it through?
Do you want your job to be your life?
Those are two important questions to ask before taking up “The most expensive hobby you can imagine”.

 

How long have you had your CDL? If less than 2 years then insurance will be expensive.. I’d say now is a good time to get in and get the money while you can but if I was you I’d find a company that hires O/O maybe drive there truck then After a bit buy one and lease it on to that company.. work out the kinks in the truck build up some cash reserve and then finally get your own authority.. it if you think your going to get into trucking to avoid the b/s lmfao!!! Other than that I don’t want to do anything else...

 

It's the age of your authority that matters most. Not the age of your CDL. You could theoretically have your CDL for 10 years but not find an insurance company to cover you due to being a new entrant.
