When I went in 2011, it was like $3,000. May I ask why they terminated you?

I was terminated for failing to complete their job skills training program. Rohel only gives you 25 days maximum to complete their phase 2 training. By day 25 I still struggled with getting all aspects of flatbedding down. So, the company pulled the plug on my training and subsequently terminated me and I decided to avoid flatbedding work in future CDL jobs.
Im currently with Jrayl now and I am a week away from testing out and going solo. So far, I am enjoying running Dry van more than I did flatbed; no load securement to deal with or lifting 150 lbs tarps on to a coil thats taller than me.

No, I haven't. And to be honest I don't plan on to unless im forced to do so. (Also my credit is already ruined anyway, so they can't do too much more damage to that.)

Ive been wanting to drive since about 2007 when I saw a patrick swayze movie called black dog, so I wasn't giving up that easily.
I had tried swift next, however I am sent home indefinitely due to having ADHD and autism. (And rejected an evaluation from a psychologist assuring that I am safe to drive. I had later found that the Autism concern had no basis in law whatsoever, so I don't know what swift was doing jumping on that. The ADHD diagnosis on the other hand does unfortunately limit me to a one year card.. so it's a bit inconvenient.) But i'm starting to get a bit off topic here, so let me get back on track.

During my constructive termination from Swift, I had heard from another member on here named chinatown about a company named Jrayl based in Akron, OH that was said to be decent. I applied for them and was hired by them on November 11th, 2019.. and i've been with them ever since then.

I left Roehl a few months ago with 30k miles left of my contract. They sent me a letter a month later saying I owe them $7k and that non-payment will result in the debt being sent to collections. If you call the number in the letter, they'll likely offer you two options:

    1) Pay off the full amount over 24 months at a 12% interest rate
    2) One-time payment of $4,900 (30% discount)

And that is the major reason why I don't like Rohel's contract as it's written.. It doesn't matter if the student never even received their CDL or if its a driver with 1K left on their contract, the "loan" is never prorated or forgiven for any reason. I personally think Rohel has it written this way because the company makes a profit off of the termination.. as in they charge more than what it actually costs for the training. (Based off of a lawsuit Ham vs swift transportation. Of course the circumstances are different with Roel than in the lawsuit.. the point is, the overcharging is likely there.) Also, the driver is still an at-will employee but yet will still owe money if employment is terminated for any reason.. or no reason for that matter.. this coupled with the way the contract is worded could make the contract unenforceable.. of course, that's to be decided by a court should it ever go that far.

Yep, it's kinda scummy how they do it. I didn't mention in my last post, but I even left on good terms and gave them more than a two week notice. Emptied my truck at home and drove it halfway across the country to drop it off at a terminal ... And then they said 'bye' and offered no assistance whatsoever in getting me back home. $100 Lyft to the airport and $300 plane ticket to get home.

It ended up being worth it for me to leave in the end because the pay raise at my next job more than made up for the $4900 I paid them. Just be aware that if you intend to leave before your contract is up, you will not get any help whatsoever.

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me.. although my parting wasn't on good terms, as you've probably read already on my previous posts in this thread. I was pretty much on my own in getting home once I was brought back to the Gary, indiana terminal and informed that they were pulling the plug on my training.. I believe this was on September 6th 2019.
