I’m an owner operator that has only been hauling containers for a short time.

The carrier I’m leased on with wanted me to install a kt dash cam. I refused as it’s not part of my lease contract and I don’t like that they have total access to the video as well as audio meaning they can listen in on any private conversations s long truck is on.

now several months later they’re telling me the liability insurance I pay for through them is requiring I use their dash cam.
I have no problem having a dash cam in the event of an accident, but I don’t want it to just be feeding everything to random people in my company as well as the insurance company.

my question, is it possible to get my own liability insurance when leased on with another company?

Unfortunately not. The GL goes with the Motor Carrier. You'll have to bend over and take it or take your truck to a better company. Maybe if you drive naked and put the most disgusting things in front of the lens you can think of they'll allow you to cover it up with grease or something so they don't have to look at it.

You have to be on there insurance, maybe see if you can run your own dash cam they don't have access to, I would highly advise you have one, I wouldn't run without one now days.

Ya I already tried that. Apparently the insurance is requiring this specific one. Presumably because they get access to the feed as well. I’ve never had one but more and more I think I should. I just prefer to only give over any footage when it’s needed.

I have a keep truckin one, I'm almost sure the don't record audio, there really slick. They plug right into the kt box and that's it. I understand your concern with privacy but I think the benefits out way the concerns. Just my 2 cents.

Is this for the forward facing camera or the duel foward/driver. If you it's only the forward facing not sure it's a Hill worth dieing on. The duel camera hell ya not happening.

It’s a duel camera. If it was just a forward facing one I wouldn’t really care at all. But I don’t need them to be watching my every move or for someone to decide that i took my hand off the wheel to take a drink and that’s a problem.

What we do at my company don’t let management know this…

Clean your windshield with some windex and accidentally spray the camera then wipe it off using some armor-all wipes it puts a streak/fog on the camera lens.

If it’s like lynx or Wyze it only shows management the video if you don’t activate the G-sensor so if youre some what of a competent driver you won’t get dinged for a few months they’ll see the blurred video tel you about it and ask you to clean the dirty len.

    rinse and repeat
everytime you get a coaching the camera will have a fogged lens

I was taught this by a 70 year old man lol
These Estes drivers I meet are outlaws
