Everytime I see a Werner truck I'm reminded of this story. Always gives me a good chuckle
Boondock, Jarhed1964, dwells40 and 5 others Thank this. -
Every time I read one of these stories (Good or Bad) I think that person is a million times stronger than I am. There’s no way in Hell I could be cooped up in a truck with a trainer regardless of how good he or she or they or it is of a person. I think if I got into one of these absolute horror situations I’d just quit regardless of where I was.
Boondock, Jarhed1964, John Joel Glanton and 2 others Thank this. -
Me as well! 20 years ago I spent 10 days on my trainers truck at Schneider. Wasn’t keen on the idea and that’s the only time I’ve ever been in a truck with another person. We had an absolute blast though and I learned a lot. I’m still friends with him to this day. I lucked out in the early formative years of this job for sure.SwervinMervin, Boondock, Oxbow and 4 others Thank this.

I only read the first, and last, 40 posts, but what an epic thread.
Thanks for bumping it @TROOPER to TRUCKERMACK E-6, Boondock, Jarhed1964 and 4 others Thank this. -
I'm about to start that same journey after New Year. Schneider seems to be the best (shortest) training program out of all these mega carriers. Roehl is a close second. The 3+ months of team driving that Prime forces new drivers through sounds like torture to me.Boondock, Jarhed1964, Vic Firth and 1 other person Thank this.

You’re correct! Schneider won’t allow the training engineer to vacate the passenger seat while you’re driving. I stayed there for six years before moving on. They won’t sign you off to go solo until you’re ready. Too many of these companies use the trainee for cheap labor. How on earth anyone could sleep with a new driver behind the wheel is beyond me.truckguy391, Pamela1990, Boondock and 6 others Thank this.

When I first got my license through central refrigerated back in 2011, the trainer made me checkout of my room around 1300. We head for his truck and then he just drops me off and leaves. Don’t know where he goes, just leaves with his wife. Around 2200 he comes back and we leave. He drove until 0400 and then told me to start driving. After about 2 minutes in the passenger seat he heads for the sleeper and didn’t come out until hour 10 of me driving. Ended up driving like 10:57 on my first day ever. Wouldn’t let me stop to shower for 4 days. I was strictly on his truck to be a team driver.Pamela1990, Boondock, Jarhed1964 and 1 other person Thank this.
