Do you ever have a problem with thievery?
-
Ha no! But that might have something to do with my location. I drive around the middle of nowhere and park in my shed everyday.
But good question.God prefers Diesels and Oxbow Thank this. -

They used to be for hauling cars also. Those, flatbed and OS/Od are the only ones I’ve ever thrown. Of course around here if you need to chain it’s time to park! There is to high of a concentration of dummies around here that’ll just destroy your equipment. But I agree with most if it’s part of the job it should be part of the pay.God prefers Diesels, Oxbow and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

literally just some J-bolts. Drilled into the bottom side of a cross member. Last trailer I pulled that wasn't mine I used a couple pieces of pipe that fit in some holes in the frame and welded some rebar hooks to them. Many easy ways to do it under a trailer
TripleSix, God prefers Diesels, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this. -

As O/O’s you don’t have to worry about charging the clients for chains but I wonder how many of you are not charging for tolls as well. Just how much are you willing to do for free? Do you pass on your FSC as well?
Siinman Thanks this. -
Interesting thread. I have chained when necessary and not got paid when hauling produce, but when driving a LTL truck with doubles always got paid, just a quick phone call to dispatch for the time, trucks had GPS installed, so dispatcher could see location anytime. Did not like 3 rail chains, but with a single axle drive unit, that is what it took. If the road was closed, we got paid delay time. I also hated running across 70 in Colorado just because 80 in Wyoming was closed. With cable chains, I think the outside cables have to be 3/8ths if the outside cables are 1/4inches, they are not legal chains for some states.

entitlement?
Why shouldn’t a driver be paid for ALL of their time?
Why should I sit around on the last part of my work week to go wash the truck and not be paid for it?
With the LTL’s you typically get paid for just about everything.
I’m not saying it has to be a substantial amount.
Old Dominion pays a flat fee per day to chain. It used to be $25. Didn’t matter if you did it once or you did it four times a day.
SAIA pays 0.75 hrs to chain each time. Only catch is you have to call Central and wait on hold for 20 minutes to get the dispatchers to put it on your pay. Linehaul drivers have a cpm for driving. An hourly rate for drop/hook and chaining and training/safety pay.
If all the drivers would stand up for themselves as a whole, we wouldnt be getting nickeled and dimed by some of these ####### companies the way we do.
Any manner of work whether it be fueling, chaining or unchaining, drop & hook, tarping, untarping, washing the truck even your pre-trip and post-trips should be paid. A couple $ here and there adds up at the end of the year AND it makes a driver feel appreciated by their company.
The more you drivers let these companies get away with, the more they will take from you.
lol. You don’t know much about trucking then.
First off most of the mega’s will not pay you to chain. I started Werner and they didn’t pay you to chain. They expected it. I parked it when it came time to chain. Especially at $0.26 cpm. You want me to work, you will pay me or I will sit.
Secondly, all the big LTL’s will pay you to chain.
UPS
Old Dominion
FedEx Freight
Estes
Saia
Yellow
ABF
T-Force (The old UPS Freight)
these guys all pay.
I’m not sure about R+L or Reddaway.
FedEx Ground, most contractors will not pay you to chain because they’re too cheap but they aren’t a real LTL/Linehaul company anyhow. They are a package company.Last edited: Jan 7, 2022
