Just started CDL school and backing seems like a paradox. Was wondering if practicing with a car backing a boat/camper would help? Any driving schools that give lessons backing a car with trailer?

If you dont like backing a 53 trailer. Just remember the smaller (shorter) the trailer. The HARDER it is to back.
Cowboyrich, Jammer', Badmon and 2 others Thank this. -
I find it so much easier to back up a stinger being a car carrier in the past . Its harder for me to back up my 53 step
-
Dont worry bud , you not going to be backing up very often

I have a bass boat, I actually prefer backing my big truck (I pull tanker). For one thing, I can see much better because of the mirrors. Also, I drive and back that thing every day. My bass boat once a week or so.
tscottme Thanks this. -
Only if the axles are not at the 41ft kpra.
Then the trailer backs like a 48ft with 8ft of rear overhang. -
Your car and boat trailer will react WAY faster that a semi-truck and trailer. If you can learn to back the boat trailer you can learn to back the 53 foot trailer.

Just put a ball on your garden tractor, then the wheelbases resemble a big rig.
I haven't driven a rig in a long time but I use the 'tricks' I learned every time I take the boat out. -
Absolutely. I was in the same situation, just couldn't get backing up. Then went to U-Haul, rented the biggest truck and trailer they had and spent a whole day practicing at an empty Kmart parking lot.
Passed the test next day without problemsCowboyrich and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
