Yesterday morning at 4 am, -30, middle of no where. Wind wasn't blowing. Just extremely cold. The belt tightener broke, no warning. Also, the belt broke.
Had no choice only to shut the truck off.
After a few minutes the cab was very cold inside. Yeah, that is an eerie feelin, the silence, the cold and the wilderness, nothing left to do but try and think.
So, I lifted the hood and crawled up on top of the engine. It was still warm and the heat felt good. It stayed warm, I would start the truck when the temp dropped in the engine and it would warm quickly with no belt to run the water pump.
By 6 am I had the situation under control. Caught a ride with another trucker.
By 8 am found a belt tightener that fit my particular engine, I had a spare belt with me.
By 9 the truck was running at high idle and things was warming up.
Then, all the brakes froze up on my trailer, I had a can of ether with me so I warmed it up over the heater vent, crawled under the trailer and used the either can for a torch, sprayed ether on the drums and set them on fire one at a time until I would hear the brake letting go off the drum. Also, I could see the slack adjuster releasing slowly.
Friday at times has been a challenge for me in this business. Many times I have had major problems with a truck it happened on a Friday.
Finally got my load to the destination with no other issues. I managed to get a half a loaf yesterday.
Like the old sayin goes, A half a loaf is better than none at all.
Where is everyone #5

JoeyJunk, Flint1, singlescrewshaker and 8 others Thank this. -
Well, heading toward Sikeston area to look at one other place before I leave today. One of the places I looked at yesterday sold while we were there. This market sucks. Hard to compete with internet buyers. Who in the hell buys a place sight unseen? Plenty of people do I guess.....wtf!

So the boss wants me to "train" ie get this gal with just enough know how to pass the road test on the 3rd of Feb. Not liking that idea already, but sometimes the boss gets his way. I called yesterday and ask how her COVID test came out. What test they say? The negative test she is gonna have before she gets in my truck. (I currently am fighting a sinus infection and strep throat. So what is some COVID on top of that?) They were not going to test her. I feel that having her tested is a bare minimum, am I wrong?

Also, with you not feeling well right now your immune system may not be 100% and that may make you more susceptible to another illness and that's the last thing you want when trying to drive and work. More power to you. Do what you need to do to get well and keep yourself well so your income and family life doesn't have to shoulder the burden of you being sick for an extended period of time.
