My son has a 2013 Volvo VNL I shift that burnt a valve. WE bought a used engine from Vander Haag's , our first mistake! The engine we bought is out of a manual trans. truck. The Idiots at Vander Haag's said it had 220,000 miles which is a Lie after checking the truck odometer it turned out the engine has over a million miles. The problem is after installing the engine the I shift will not untrack and come to find out the bell housings are different. Is it possible that reprogramming will fix this problem or will the bellhousings have to be swapped? The Volvo dealers in Kansas and Missouri have just ripped us off terribly over the years and looking for a way out if possible!! Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

My understanding is that if that engine was not the same as the original then you would have a problem on the program side. It will take someone that knows what they are doing to get it done. You will not be able to get a Dealer to fix it is my understanding.

Man I'm sorry to tell you but this is going to be a #### show, this is what you need to get done in order to work properly have done it plenty of times with no problems but labor intensive.

Swap Engine Flywheel housings/engine bell housing from original engine to new engine, swap flywheel and clutch, also need to swap ECM modules from damaged engine to engine that is going on the truck, if everything else is same with the engine depends on years should not need anything else, if different years need to swap components and possibly wiring harness from original engine to engine that is going in the truck.
Best of luck to you but this is something that is very labor intensive.

If you want to keep ecm that came with engine need to verify same part number as old engine and also need to reprogramm ecm to match vin on the truck.

    hope this helps.

if both engines are on the ground it shouldn't take more than 5-6 Hrs to swap bellhousing from one to the other, only thing is you need to get proper tools to install top timing cover also need new M8 bolts for bellhousing being that they are one time use( per volvo) it is 26 of them, also need new crank seal, air compressor o ring, and tandem pump o ring, once bell housing is off i would highly advise to replace idle gear between crank and tandem pump notorious for failure in that engine year plus cheap to replace considering the cost of doing it when engine in the truck. Side note only use volvo silicone for sealant about $60 a tube but better than finding out u have a leak later on.

thats about right time for the engine being in the truck and that should have been addressed when engine was out of the vehicle, what is the trans doing exactly what do u mean by not untrack.
