I'd assume they would keep you moving more, since they have a better freight base. I know how most people on here always poopoo them, but has anyone on here ever worked for the small-medium companies and then made a career change to megas, and preferred the change?

All of them are good to someone.

Shoes that fit you are good shoes. Shoes that fit someone else, but not you, are not worth any price. First you have to know specifically what you need and then you have to find out how any company operates and what they pay. If you cannot talk to a current working driver at a company, don't work there. Don't waste time asking recruiters about a company. The recruiters are not aware of anything but how many drivers a company wants to hire and what are the average pay for the top drivers, and how much experience the insurance company requires for new-hires. Even if a recruiters answers your question it is not a guarantee. Most recruiters understand that once you start the application and the company gets it, you will sell yourself on working for that company. At every step after that you have more pressure on you to continue with that company.

You shouldn't buy a car by only speaking to car salesmen. You should get info from reviews, "Consumer Reports", talking to friends and neighbors, and doing research. No recruiters is going to talk you out of working at that company. Their goal is not to find the right driver, but A driver.

That is a good saying. You should copyright that.

I started at a mega, and have stayed there because they take care of me.
There are others that have started at the same company and then left for greener pastures at a smaller company, only to return a year later because those rose colored glasses only made things look greener.

    I recently bought a car.
Not from a salesman, from a private owner.
I didn't do any research or go to CR, I just liked the looks of it and the price.

In fact, I had my sister buy it for me, sight unseen by me. It was just from pictures on Auto Trader and talking to the seller, and my sister doing a little test drive.
On the road at the time, but I didn't want to lose it.

Some think it is a lemon, but I love it.
It has style and class. It is old, but in very good shape.
And it does have a few issues and quirks.

    Just like my job here.
A few issues and quirks, some think it is a lemon... but I love it.

OTR reputable companies small, medium, large, mega...They're pretty much the same. Whether it's 200 trucks or 2000 trucks, they kind of operate the same. The lone difference is the name on the truck..I only say that because it's about what you put in it. No 2 drivers experiences are the same. I actually prefer bigger companies because I've never had to worry about getting repairs or bad DOT scores with them. That's not to say lesser known or smaller fleet owners all have these issues, but I'm only speaking from my experience.

I tend to agree with the things said already. It all depends on what you are looking for, what's important to you and what's not so important. As with Moose, I started with Swift and ended up staying with them. They've treated me well and what they offer fits what I want. No need to look for greener pastures. Another student at the Swift Academy with me didn't stay with Swift. He moved onto another company, then another, then another and a few more others I think. About a month ago, he came back to Swift and think he'll stick around this time. And, another gal at the Swift Academy when I was, moved to Werner and was happy there. Family stuff required her to come off the road a few months ago, but had nothing to do with Werner. She had found her home driving for them. There's even a few million milers driving for CR England.
Megas have disadvantages and advantages. So, just have to understand and evaluate your expectations regarding who you drive for. NO COMPANY is perfect!
Hope you find a company to drive for you're happy with.

You like micromanaging and need help doing your tasks a mega is perfect. You wanna drive that super powered 18 speed W9 that can be entered in a truck show, or be given a task and get the job done on your own, a small fleet might be your go to. It’s mashed potatoes or twice baked. Mashed is easy. Twice baked, your hands will get hot and dirty peeling the hot skins, but twice baked is so tasty!

I do not need help doing my tasks, and Swift does not micromanage me.

But if you are the super that needs super power to show off... go for it.
I might pass you after I have waited out the storm, when you are in the ditch crying.

I’d like put my stamp of approval on Swift. They are the best mega out there. I’ve known plenty of drivers that got on with them just fine.
