Before I’d do that already knowing you’re going to need a lot of luck, I’d look into either Landstar or Schneider, where you can pick your own loads, then run where and how you want.

Misread that. Thought you were talking about fuel hauling.

USA Truck has a program where you choose your loads and run where you want to.

Yes, change your address to Florida. No state income taxes.

Most of NY already lives in FL. FL makes nothing, relatively speaking, so there is a lot of freight coming into the state and very little leaving the state. Hospitality and retail are the biggest employers, low paying, but there is no income tax. It depends on the type of trucking you want to do.

I worked for a company for 18 years. Home daily, regular time off. Just over a month vacation per year great & cheap benefits, but it got boring. I had to leave. I get it. The easiest change to make is change your attitude, it's also the hardest change to make. Use your current job as a safety blanket while you look for the perfect next job, not just a different job. There is lots of help on this web site. Don't feel like if you don't get an answer this weekend you'll never find a way out of your current job. The expenses and taxes are lower anywhere else you might move so you don't have to find the same income, but the same effective income, when you aren't paying a thousand per month property taxes, and X amount in income taxes every week/month/year. 8 or 9 states have no income tax, I would focus on what type of trucking you want to do and in which of those tax-free states can you do that type of truckign.

I can understand your desire to stop managing people and you probably do need a break, but don’t leap from one problem to another just yet.
I recommend you follow the journey of @blairandgretchen and see what successful owner ops like him and others have done to achieve their goals in trucking. I love owning a truck but don’t recommend you leave your current situation for $1.85 plus fuel surcharge.
