Ok, you need to get your own tags. That should be first on your list.

Mine took forever in Texas as well. Months… perhaps things have sped up since everyone seems to be doing normal crap nowadays. Mine was in the heart of COVID also.

    I feel for you all.

Of all the crazy stuff NJ makes one do, IRP and IFTA are two special windows next to each other, with the right items one can get their IRP plate and get in the next line and get your temp IFTA and walk out the door...

You can get your own IRP and IFTA and switch the Motor Carrier Responsible For Safety over to your authority once it's active.

Before you're active you'll have to use whoever's authority to set up the account. Make sure you have a copy of your lease and all their information like MC, DOT, phone number etc etc.

Call your state IRP and IFTA office. They all have manuals and instructions on how to do this. Don't let some parasitic organizations take your hard earned money. If you can read, you can do it.

Can't I actually set up my own IRP account now, before even filing for my own MC? IRP is essentially my own tags and registered to my LLC on the cab card no? My current carrier allows me to register my truck in my own name, but I need to get the IRP account first, correct?

This is great, thank you. If true, you are confirming what I had hoped; I can continue to run under the current carrier I am leased to, I can apply for my IRP and reregister my truck in my own name and get new plates, apply for my IFTA account using my carriers info, like the lease DOT MC phone etc as you mentioned.
I can then switch over to Authority once it's active. Does that mean the Authority or can I wait until my IFTA account is actually ready which can take 3 months in Texas?
    Awesome response thanks again

That's exactly right. I did the same thing when I was leased on before I got my own numbers. You get both the IRP and IFTA under the carrier's authority/mc but the rest is yours. Then, replace the carrier you're leased to with your information once you become the carrier (your own active authority/mc). Call your home state's IRP and IFTA offices they'll guide you through it. It's their job.
