A lot of guys have been happy with Fernando at DCS. A good custom tune will perform better than the bully dog
Swine hauler, Magoo1968, Old Man and 3 others Thank this. -
Beat me to it.
Diesel Control Services.Swine hauler, Rideandrepair and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
I don’t know if they increase horsepower or not. I know the mechanic up the road has a pile of ISX’s and DD15’s behind the shop with the pistons smashed out of them from Bully Dogs. I’d look at a tune if anything, but you’re not going to get the torque out of that 12.7 that a 15L puts up. I think that’s what you’re missing more than horsepower.Bean Jr., Rideandrepair and blairandgretchen Thank this.

I have Fernando's tune, really happy with it. Just gotta be prepared for 3 weeks downtime, while he programs the ecmSwine hauler, Big Road Skateboard, blairandgretchen and 2 others Thank this.

That's where I'm at. I have a 12.7 S60 - but it pulls nothing like the N-14 @ 15L displacement. I understand there's a lot you can do with a 12.7 , turbo/intake/exhaust to make it perform, but I'd be happier swapping in the N-14 or a CAT at 15L+ displacement to get the power I want.
DCS is probably the best answer, along with a ported and polished one piece exhaust manifold, buttoning up your CAC side and a BW turbo.
@Ruthless probably has other ideas.Swine hauler, Rideandrepair and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
Is yours stock or tuned?
My truck with Detroit has 550/1850 and 10 speed, my other Volvo got 525/1850 N14 with 13 speed and honestly if Detroit also had a 13, I would not be missing driving N14, I think it would take care of the feeling of Detroit's lower engine displacementSwine hauler, blairandgretchen and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
If someone told me 3 weeks to tune I would decline.
A #### good friend of mine does excellent electrical and mechanical work on detroits, and does overnited ecm tunes.
I am not giving out his personal info to strangers on the internet for the people reading in the future-
I have a couple 12.7‘s. They have some upgrades. I certainly have more power than I need to get the job done, but not so much that I have to worry about longevity.
3 weeks downtime is too much for something like that imoSwine hauler, blairandgretchen, Bean Jr. and 2 others Thank this. -
I had a dd15 that had a pdi power tune that gave me plenty of power, probably would work on the 12.7 just don't want to compromise my 100,000 mile warranty I only have 10,000 on the remanufactured 12.7
blairandgretchen and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Fernando has a lot of experience testing for the epa and understands timing.
Won’t take 3 weeks if you overnight the ecm and don’t use FedEx.
Get a triple play like mine 500-600-700 hpSwine hauler, blairandgretchen and Rideandrepair Thank this.
