We are looking at purchasing a 2015 Peterbilt 579 (paccar MX 13 engine) with 140k miles. We have been informed by people that we should stay away from this engine. However when I have done my research on line, the only thing that seems to be a issue is the DPF. I have sourced a company that can DPF Delete for about $4k. Does anyone have any other thoughts on this? The truck would be mainly doing about 80miles a day on flat highways transporting scaffold material into manhattan from westchester county.

We cant advise you on deletes here, against forum rules. What we CAN tell you is that while paccars from my own experince are much better snipped if anything goes wrong god help you finding a place to work on it. And the ones who will are usually running bootleg equipment and software so your gambleing every time it goes under the wrench.
Just buy a pre emissions truck or a new one. Sad to say most used emissions trucks have a 75% chance of bankrupting you. And even a pre emissions truck its a 20/80 gamble if your unlucky or unwise. -
A 7 year old truck with only 140k miles .. that should be a red flag right there.. that's 20k miles a year.. I have driven that many miles in 1 month during the busy season

Your case the hours matter more than anything, I’ve got 136,000 and 4,100 hours on mine and it’s just getting broke in

The ones at my job seem to do ok. They're rarely down for engine issues and pull decent. I drove one here and if it wasn't for the 10 speed auto trans I would've liked it. Drove a deleted MX13 at my last job and it was an absolute beast, but as stated by others, once it's done it's done.

Why would you delete it if experiencing no issues? My company needed a small sleeper truck last year and only one could find close to our current spec was a 2014 Pete 579 with MX 13. It was farmer owned and he only had put 5,000 miles on it, total mileage was just over 200,000 miles. It was deleted. I asked why, he said just what everyone suggested to do. I un-deleted it using aftertreatment from a wrecked truck with compatible aftertreatment. I cleaned all air management sensors, cleaned EGR cooler, set overhead and it hasn't had a single emissions issue at all. If you think it is tough to find someone to work on a Paccar, try finding someone to work on a deleted one. 95% of deletes I have been around do more bad than good.

2015 should be pretty much out of the trouble years unless it was idled a lot
The first few years were the problematic ones, not just Paccar but all of them were trying to figure out how to make all the Dpf stuff work
I had a 2014 KW. No issues other than a sensor here and there until I had the egr system flushed then the sensor issues went away
I am on my 4th Paccar and no real issuesspsauerland Thanks this.
