Fleets do it to dumb down the barrier to entry. The less stuff to confuse a driver with the better. Throttle, brake and steer. Just hold that wheel.

With all the trailer fires lately I could see doing away with them. Takes one part of the equation out. Besides hub bearings.
How many times have you see a truck going down hill smoking the trailer brakes because they don't want to use the truck brakes.gekko1323 Thanks this. -

One company I worked for did away with them because one idiot used it to park when he had to stop and call for directions to the delivery (pre-cell and pre-Peoplenet/Qualcomm days...only pay phones). He was on the phone with the customer as he watched the truck coast down a slight hill and into a pizza place. After that, every truck ordered had no trolly.
My current carrier (Crete/Shaffer) doesn't have them either. Probably because of something similar happened. It usually only takes one driver to screw the pooch for the rest.nredfor88, D.Tibbitt, JC1971 and 1 other person Thank this. -
