By not accepting the rate, that is your strike.

By accepting the rate, you ended the strike.

    Pretty simple.

if the rates in an area are overall to low, maybe operate in an area that has a shortage of trucks. Stay dynamic, complacency hurts the account.

The real issue these days is that all these new "COOL" guys who had to be all flashy with their new large cars riding down the road with a 400k note in a 389 with a stainless wagon are basically hauling anything they can at this point to keep the repo man away. I hope they all go under shortly, they are only screwing us who really how how this works. Another thing is, since you run a fleet, why are you relying solely on spot freight??

I quickly realized the importance of the trucking industry in this country when I got into trucking. I used to think to myself “if truck drivers worked together they could really control and accomplish almost anything, even to the point of holding the country ransom if they wanted to.” It took a few years but I’ve now figured out that will never happen. Because truckers don’t stick together when it comes to things that could better their lives and make the industry better overall. That’s not an offensive statement to anyone, a lot of you would be willing unfortunately there’s too many that aren’t. They will continually undermine any systematic effort.

Truckers COULD get anything they want, unfortunately that will NEVER happen.

That'll never happen. The Feds made that illegally clear in 1861. I'd love to get out from under their boot though.

When truck drivers stop working together and stop viewing their work as a trade, it all ended. Blame the cell phone for roadside convenience, dumbing down the profession with nanny equipment, and low self esteem of many folks that enter the field because they see trucking as a easy in. When you get those kinds of folks, low aptitude is common. The ata, loves this and coddles these new drivers. I miss the old hands that earned their salt. Many were resourceful and tough. The confidence in their abilities shined in their posture and attire. No sweats, obesity issues, or bad hygiene problems that we see today in our industry. Until people have the personal character traits of the old salts, we will continue to see a demise in the new drivers ability to provide a quality service and protect themselves from those that want to take advantage of their weakness.

The last time we came close to uniting America's truckers our leader wound up in prison. When he got out of prison his business associates ground him into fish bait and took him for a boat ride.
