Hey Folks. Going to Knight Trans for my CDL shortly. I've been asked if I have a preference. Reefer pays a little more, but I'm told it isn't worth it because of the wait times and unreliable detention pay. Any opinions out there. Thank you in advance.

Wait times pay by the hour. Go refrigerated!

TANKER,,there, I think we've confused them enough. You will get 10 different answers from 10 different people. Van is about the least problematic, and requires the least attention. It used to be, reefer did pay more, I don't know if that's the case anymore, a driver is a driver. Just starting out, I'd go with a van, make sure you like trucking at all, because the hassles of reefer, and there will be plenty, will make any newbie run screaming into the Knight,[sic],,go with the van to start.

Why would you go through a company for a CDL?

Reefer has crazy unload times, witch can be tiring to a new comer quickly.

Go with a company that will actually pay you decent. Leave knight in the night.

Reefer. You’ll get all the miles you want and more. If I ever go OTR again, and stop pulling a tank, it’ll be reefer.

    jgtrucking and Chinatown Thank this.

I started out with reefer I think I got paid detention twice in two years even though I spent crazy amounts of time on live unloads.
The big problem is the messed up sleeping schedule. This is so unhealthy for you they are starting to say its a major cause of health problems including obesity.
Not worth the extra pennies in my opinion

You were screwed by not being paid detention. Should have been paid for the stop, then detention.
Roehl pays detention and also pays 'address to address' miles.

Maybe things have changed, but most grocery places have it right in the contract that no detention will be paid

The reefer outfits I worked for paid the driver anyway.
    I like refrigerated trucking.
