Reefer pays .02 per mile more. I'm told detention is not reliable. I appreciate it.

I'm going through a company because it will only cost me $3K for my license with no contract commitment to them. Also, there aren't many companies looking to hire rookies because of insurance issues. From what I've gathered, the thing to do is, get your first year or two in with a big carrier, then move on to bigger and better things. I do appreciate your input.

I've heard the same from many folks. Thank you for your input.

Reefer is horrible, IMO. I always avoided doing reefer because of the long wait times, customer hassles, and the noise of the dang reefer. I pulled reefer for about a year. It's not worth it. I will sell hand-made greeting cards before I ever pull a reefer load again.

1 or 2 hours before detention starts. The stop pay makes up for the "free hours".
    For example:
Stop pay is $25.00 then 2 hours later, detention pay starts.
So, the stop pay equates to $12.50 an hour until the detention pay starts.

Yeah, I understand some drivers don't like refrigerated trucking, but I really liked it. Only trucking I liked better was hazmat/tankers.

Nothing requires reefer to pay stop pay. And detention assumes you arrive at your appointment time. If you are early and have to sit, that's free. There are lots of multiple drop reefer loads. If stop #1 delays you and makes you late for your next stops you cannot get detention pay on the next stops. Reefer customers also reject more freight than other customers. When a customer rejects some/all of their freight you get to spend free hours getting rid of the freight and delaying you from starting next load or getting empty so you can get a parking spot. You might only collect mileage pay for the 20 miles of downtown driving and the hours of waiting for dispatch to put together a plan to dump the rejected freight. Maybe drop and hook is good. Reefer customers are the worst and their lumpers make homeless crack-addicts seem like responsible citizens.
