Basically my wife and I are homeless. We are staying with family in Arkansas. We have New Mexico driver's licenses. We would like to do Schneider's Cat program but there aren't any team jobs for those without a CDL in Arkansas. But there is a position for permit holders in Texas and New Mexico. Do you know if I get an Arkansas permit and use Escapees or another service to have a Texas or NM address will they accept that?
We could drive back to NM and get a permit but I'm not sure if we'd have to provide proof of residency (which we don't have 2 sources) to get it. I know you have to for the actual CDL but by then we could have a paystub from Schneider with a virtual mailbox address. My driver's license address doesn't currently fall in the distance for the Schneider job.
There is a local CDL school but it is $6000. There is also a $2500 one at a community college but we can't get an answer for when the next session starts. We are just trying to find away to move out of the family room.

Schneider offers a paid five-week CDL Apprenticeship Training (CAT) course at our Indianapolis and Charlotte locations. This program allows candidates to drive an automated transmission truck and even take the skills test at a Schneider facility. Who is eligible for Schneider’s CAT program?

You need a physical address and Escapees provides that.
Do you and your wife want to train together in the same truck at the same time?
Schneider and CR England do that and Covenant does that for new cdl school grads.

Carter Express can provide teaming for you and your wife. This company has their own cdl school. Nearest to you is Paragould, Arkansas. -
@gentleroger might be your hookup.
You need to understand that you don't go from homeless to gainfully employed. It takes time and a lot of it.

We should be OK but there is a lot of uncertainty. I thought we would be able to go to the community college and hopefully sign up with Schneider after getting our CDLs but today we were told there is probably a wait list.

Trucks look well maintained.
Saw one today pulling a Target trailer.

Schneider is ok.
i pulled tank for them for a while out of Reserve, LA, nearest terminal for bulk by AR.
could park at the West Memphis location on home time (6 days a month for bulk)
they had local bulk trainers in Louisiana, i stayed in a motel for the 2 nights i had to ride with a trainer, i was experienced driver, just no recent tank, but he started at 0600 and we were done by 1400, and he let me unload and load, talking me through it.
he was a good dude, Lifer with schneider.
they had women trainers on bulk side too.Turtlelegs Thanks this. -
Explain that you and your wife are looking to team drive and get your license through Schneider CAT program. We have jet set teams available, so the Arkansas location shouldn't be a problem, I also think a formed team would be very acceptable being based out of w. Memphis.
Unfortunately, only a recruiter will be able to answer your particular scenario.
I will also warn you that it is entirely likely that you and your wife will have separate trainers. If it ends up being mixed gender, only one person will be in the sleeper at a time and the other will get a hotel room.
Your other option would be to get your cdl while she gets a local mcjob. Then in a year's time you could train her and then go teaming. Maybe not ideal, but even solo you should be able to save enough for at least a 1 bedroom apartment within 3 months.
Good luck and let me know if I can help.Turtlelegs and tscottme Thank this. -
You have to get the permit from the same state as your license, which sounds like is currently New Mexico. I know I had to show 2 proofs of residency when I got my Texas permit, even though I’ve long had a Texas license. I suspect other states are similar, so you may need to move your license to Arkansas, or wherever you plan on staying or keeping as your “residence”.
