How far back does one have to go to find an engine with no speed governor? Which models for which manufacturer?
Looking for another truck and really like the old school look and feel.

Detroit, you would have to go back to the 2 stroke 8V92 I think, so late 80s maybe?

ECM’s have always limited road speed and RPM. Just a matter of where the top is. Most are only programmable to a certain speed, say 120 or 125mph max cruise or road speed. Engine RPM is limited to protect the engine.

They had governors on mechanical engines. Road speed limiters.
